Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 228 for 8 (40 overs)
Worcester Park 139 all out (29.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 89 runs

A 65-ball century, (eventually out for 121 off 79), from Alastair Curran helped set up a great win for 10-player Stoke at Worcester Park. (Note not ten-man here as Anya Devon-Berry created a bit of history by being the first female player to play Under 21 Trust League cricket for the Club.)

Ollie John 99 not out v Old Whitgiftians

Ollie John 99 Not Out in Trust League Defeat

Sunday 2nd July 2017
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 211 for 4 (40 overs)
Old Whitgiftians 212 for 4 (35.5 overs)
Old Whitgiftians won by 6 wickets

Without players’ scores displayed on the board and the scorers tucked safely away in the shade of the Clubhouse, Ollie John was unaware that a six off the final ball of Stoke’s innings would have brought him a first century in any form of cricket. He swatted it over cow for four to finish unbeaten on 99 to help post a total of 211 for 4 in 40 overs after Will Thomson won the toss and elected to bat on a warm afternoon.

Stoke D’Abernon Advent Calendar 2016 (18)

Will Thomson started the season in Manchester and ended it in China, but still managed 18 games in between, (he travelled from Manchester on the morning of a couple of games, but for the record didn’t fly in from China for any!); making appearances for all the XIs and fulfilling a number of batting, bowling and keeping roles; then latterly taking on the role of Trust League Captain where he played arguably the best captain’s innings by a Stoke skipper since we entered the Trust League in 2007.

ODI Collapses / 100+ for 0 then all-out (2)

The latest article about losing wickets after being 100+ for 0 has prompted a bit of interest and banter. Tim McConnell, (Stoker from 2001 to 2003 who says he will try and get a game in for us next time he is in the UK – http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/808642?rule_type_id=179), contacted us from his native New Zealand and spotted himself on the Century Partnerships board with Andrew Hall who also joined the conversation. Will Thomson also dialled in from the Far East, and one or two more local to Stoke have already read and shared it.

The Club has received this e-mail from Ian Wellman, (for those who don’t know he was our leading run scorer until a couple of years ago and his late father Derek founded our colts section):

“Just want to add my own personal congratulations to those from other former players of the Club who have all been, I am sure, again watching the Club’s progress again this season.
