Stoke D’Abernon won by 116 runs

No change at the top of the table as Stoke completed a 116 run win to stay second, the points secured a little later in the day than fellow promotion hopefuls Old Rutlishians and Epsom finished their matches. Read more

An early start, (credit to Purley and Stoke for working together to start at 9.30am to get things done ahead of the football), and an early finish with the right result for Stoke as they stretched their unbeaten run to five to keep pace with the leaders. Read more

A high quality 2nd v 1st match where all results were possible going into the final overs saw Old Rutlishians, who occupied top spot, bat out the final few balls to maintain their position. Stoke dropped to fourth in the table due to other results but are still very much in touch. Read more

Stoke’s 1st XI moved up to 2nd place in the table with a big win over lowly Cheam who arrived at the Rec with quite a few of their players seen more recently in the 2nd XI and Sunday XIs. Nevertheless the necessary was done in an entertaining and dominant manner to secure maximum points. Read more

“Hoppy” has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. Mr.Reliable in many ways, I can’t think of a game where he hasn’t contributed with either the ball, the bat or in the field. I’ll put him at the top of the order because the rest of this line-up likes to have a slog and we need someone to at least try and stick around. Plus we need him to lead the warm up and roll the wicket. Read more

I’ve had 16 seasons at Stoke, (so far), during which time I’ve played alongside hundreds of other players of varying abilities. Selecting the best will always be a matter of judgement so feel free to disagree with my selections – I know some of you will. All of the Stoke 1st XI matches this season have been won by the side batting first and the trend continued at The Rec as another good bowling and fielding display – for some part with a man down – on a generally unresponsive pitch was met with a short second innings. Read more
