Mid Surrey Youth Cricket League Cup – FINAL
Old Rutlishians U14 73 all out
Stoke D’Abernon U14 74 for 7
Stoke D’Abernon U14 won by 3 wickets
Stoke’s Under 14s hosted Old Rutlishians in the Mid Surrey Cup final on the first sunny Sunday morning for a while.
The holidays had taken their toll on the U14s with only three available, so the team was largely made up of U13s and an U12.
Stoke won the toss and put Old Ruts in to bat. On a difficult pitch to bat on the bowlers performed well. Xani L 3 for 6 from 3.2 overs, Charlie K 3 for 19 from 4, James M 2 for 20 from 4 and Giacomo, (1-11 from 4), took wickets. Banj M also bowled well conceding just 15 runs in 4 overs.
Old Ruts were restricted to 73 all out in the 19th over.
Stoke started solidly but lost wickets and pressure grew. Runs were hard to come but until Charlie K released the pressure with 17 off 11 balls. After ten overs Stoke were 45 for 3. Then at 15 overs, 65 for 5.
Runs dried up and more wickets fell. In a very tense finish Stoke prevailed, a sensible unbeaten 33 not out by opener Giacomo saw the team home and Stoke won by 3 wickets with 7 balls to spare.
A great game played in a competitively friendly spirit.
Giacomo picked up the Man of the Match Award.
Many thanks to the U13s who stepped up and help us win the Cup.
To crown a good season the Under 14s were also runners up in the Mid-Surrey League.
