Best Ever Stoke Bowlers in the Surrey Championship?

So we’re about to start our 11th season in the Surrey Championship, and our first in Division 2 after three successive promotions.

Whilst our progress through the divisions has relied on a combination of batting, bowling, fielding and keeping excellences, not to mention tremendous team spirit and the support network behind the scenes; an article on CricInfo appeared in the off-season penned by Anantha Narayanan who chose to look at the role played by the bowlers in the success of any team. It would be remiss of us not to look at how our bowlers have done in comparison! Read more

Logie’s Birthday Missions : 29 completed, 41 to Go

Yesterday evening saw Logie complete his 29th catch-up mission, (of 70 in his calendar so far), for his 70th birthday.

For those who don’t know Logie, he was Stoke’s 1s skipper in 1997 and 1998, (he also captained the 2s for part of 1995, all of 1996 and all of 2000), and assembled a squad of Stokers to help celebrate his birthday, (not until April!), at The Plough over the road from the Club yesterday evening. My Greatest XI : Chris Gudgeon

In response to our latest Joe Root/Richie Parrett article, we’ve received the following from Chris Gudgeon…

Beer Cleared!

A tremendous turnout yesterday from members, (and many friends & family of members), at all levels of the Club – plus some new faces who will be joining for next year – saw the remainder of the 2016 vintage Asahi demolished.

2nd Ten lose to Old Ruts

Saturday 30th April 2016
Friendly
Old Rutlishians 2nd XI 184 all out (45 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 89 all out (39.2 overs)
Old Rutlishians 2nd XI won by 95 runs

Stoke’s 2s still had more of a Sunday side look to it with a number of regulars unavailable or called up to the 1st XI, but they bowled the opposition out on a pitch where you needed to work hard for your wickets, an effort all the more commendable having fallen back to ten players after a plethora of team changes during the week. Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final.
