The Stoke Team & Fixture Secretary was away for the weekend and took a call early on Sunday from one of the appointed match-managers to say that the original opposition, Cobham Avorians, had called them to say that their ground was unfit. Defeat to Twickenham despite DD Snr cameo

Twickenham won by 21 runs

Another tough week for the team secretary, and the loss of both keeping options after the team was announced made things even more of a puzzle. Nine Stoke players did make it to the ground, their number made up to ten on the day of the match thanks to Danny Douthwaite Snr who made his playing debut for the club. Stoke received an invite from Churchleigh after the close game the sides played out in July; however they ran into an impressive bunch of young Stoke players who all contributed to a huge win under the leadership of Jeremy Connell. Read more

Adi breaks record Stoke T20 score as Stoke beat the Avorians

Stoke and the Avorians played out an entertaining encounter at the Rec, the senior players getting valuable time in the middle ahead of Saturday’s League fixtures and the younger players gaining more experience. Read more

Stoke Massive at The Mogul

Monday night saw members of the Stoke Massive dine out at The Mogul in Walton-on-Thames.

Jono & Natalie, Adrian & Becca, Jack, Paulie, Jez, Jase, Stephen & Joanne, Will & Tom G and Ralphie all tucked in for a bargain £15.

Toby also put an appearance in before resuming his World Tour; and Timmy rocked up to see what he has been missing since his Bosman move to East Molesey. Read more

More good availability meant another 3rd XI fixture could be played; and Caterham kindly selected us as the opposition for their 2nd XI who had a League bye-week. This gave the hybrid of emerging Stoke players and a few older heads to get time in the middle, and there was another positive result. Read more

Having continued the Stoke tradition of losing the toss, Stoke were asked to bat.

Wilkinson opened the bowling for Churchleigh and was the pick of the bowlers, Phillips took the new ball with Wilkinson and Stephen Anderson found this bowling to his liking and forced a change, only to find the the spin of the captain Jon Woolgar equally inviting, clubbing a career best 63 from 36 balls, (his maiden half-century for Stoke.) More often than not a side bowled out for a low score batting first on a good track can slump to a dismal defeat; but Stoke pushed League leaders Dorking all the way with a spirited bowling and fielding display. Read more
