2020 – A statistical review

The strangest of years but still one for the stattos amongst us to get our teeth into.

World events meant we had the latest start ever to a season – 18th July – and our enthusiasm to play meant that we also had the latest finish – 10th October – the previous record of the 1st October, (three previous occasions), would also have been beaten had we played the fixture we arranged with Oxted & Limpsfield for the 3rd October, but torrential rain in Limpsfield in the week ruined that plan. Club President Stephen Finch was clearly determined not to lose his claim to be an active player to have last played in October, turning out on 10/10/2020 to add to his last October appearance on 01/10/1977! Last Over T20 defeat at Oxshott

Thursday 21st August 2014
Stoke D’Abernon 148 for 9 (20 overs)
Maori Oxshott 150 for 5 (19.4 overs)
Maori Oxshott won by 5 wickets

Before reading on a massive vote of thanks to Maori Oxshott for hosting this fixture. Stoke were starved of friendly T20 action having had both oppositions from last week scratch due to lack of numbers. Oxshott did, in fact, raise a side at very short notice to replace one of them last week, only for both sides to be beaten by the weather, but undeterred the clubs raised sides again. Read more

Stoke were able to raise a third side, (just about!), at the weekend and received an invite from Blackheath, the match sourced by Stoke Chairman Drew Patrick who was in a meeting with the opposition’s Chairman earlier in the week. They were more than welcoming hosts and kindly provided a couple of players to complete the XI after late-drop-out-itis struck again. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon 172 for 7 (32.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won 3 wickets

Stoke’s Sunday XI continued their winning run with a successful run chase at the Rec. Firstly some massive votes of thanks : to Jo Patrick for sorting a tea a late notice after some late selection changes across the two Sunday sides; to Andy Page for running the game, and to Will Thomson for sourcing two last minute call-ups to complete the side and save Chris Finch, (who forgot it was his birthday when he gave his availability), a long trip to Stoke. Stoke D’Abernon 209 for 9 declared (46 overs)
Surrey Cryptics 133 all out (31 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 76 runs

A seventh straight win for Stoke’s Sunday XI as the Surrey Cryptics were beaten by 76 runs.

After being inserted, Alistair McMillan blunted the opening bowlers whilst Stephen Anderson was his usual attacking self at the other end, hitting three fours and three sixes in a knock of 47 from 35 balls. Both were dismissed in quick succession, Anderson bowled by Goss, then McMillan, (10), was caught at the wicket off the bowling of Stoke Quizmaster Peter Andrew. 60 for 2. Read more
