Career Runs in Sixes

Mr Handel from Cobham contacted the Club to ask what proportion of runs he and his peers have made in 6s. In some rare down-time over the Christmas period we’ve now managed to put a couple of things together that we hope answers his query.

Of the players that played in 2018, here are the percentages of their career runs for the Club in sixes. To make this list you must have hit a minimum of eight career sixes and scored a minimum of 150 runs for the Club: Read more

Kohli v Stoke (2) : Consecutive 20+ Scores

India drew first blood in the Test Series this week despite a moderate contribution from Virat Kohli. However Virat added another impressive stat to his CV recently in the ODI series against the West Indies where, having made 157 not out, he made an eighteenth successive score of 20 or more in ODIs, (passing Matthew Hayden’s run of 17 20+ scores in 2007.) He then extended his run to nineteen with 107 in the next match before finally falling for 16 in Mumbai. Twelve of Virat’s knocks were also over 50, (8×100, 4×50.) Read more

Better than Yasir Shah?

After Yasir Shah’s 14 wicket haul last week an article appeared on the web, (see foot of this post), suggesting that he is probably going to be the fastest ever to take 200 Test wickets. His current count is 195 at an average of 28.23 and a strike rate of 54.45. All this from just 62 innings bowled in his 32 Test career that is just over 4 years old. Decent. Read more

Centuries on Debut / Time Taken to Make First Hundred

Ben Foakes made a century in his first Test innings last week, and this fitted in nicely with some other analysis we were doing after CricInfo were asked to look at one or two things by their followers.

Four Stokers have made a century on their debut, (in Claire Trafford’s case she arrived on the scene with a score of 213 not out!), and many others have got to three figures in pretty quick time. Read more

Batting Average on reaching 10000 runs

When Virat Kohli became the thirteenth player to reach 10000 ODI runs yesterday, (see link below), this image appeared on the web soon after to say that he had the highest average at the point of reaching that landmark.

Ducks by Brothers in the Same Innings

A rare – but not unique – piece of history in the first test between Pakistan and Australia recently where the Marsh brothers were both dismissed for a duck in the same innings. Andrew Samson at Test Match Special, and soon after Steven Lynch at CricInfo, looked into how many times this has happened, and there were only seven previous instances: Read more

Opened the Batting and the Bowling in the same League Match

Last week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at people who opened the batting and the bowling in the same ODI. The question and the answer was:

Q : Mehidy Hasan opened the batting and bowling for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final. How many times has this happened? Read more

Stokers Better/Worse than Virat Kohli

This week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at one of the poorer sides of Virat Kohli’s game. The question and the answer was:

Q : Does Virat Kohli have the worst average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs in ODIs?

A : Virat Kohli has so far taken four wickets in one-day internationals, for an average of 166.25. That is indeed the highest average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs. Next comes an Indian captain of a much earlier vintage, S Venkataraghavan, whose five ODI wickets cost him 108.40 apiece. Pommie Mbwangwa of Zimbabwe, (11 wickets at 103.63), also ended up with a three-figure average. Read more
