Match Drawn – ‘Winning Draw’ to Stoke D’Abernon
A maiden league century for returning captain James Trower and a fine spell of 14-8-16-5 from Ian Hopton were highlights of a terrific display by Stoke’s 1st XI that ended in frustration as the opposition held out for a draw.

Epsom won by 89 runs
All of the Stoke 1st XI matches this season have been won by the side batting first and the trend continued at The Rec as another good bowling and fielding display – for some part with a man down – on a generally unresponsive pitch was met with a short second innings.

Exam time around the country for many, including the Club Captain, but anyone looking for a model answer on how to defend a below par total should have come to Churt’s picturesque ground for this one.

Staines & Laleham won by 82 runs
Stoke lost their unbeaten record with an untypical collapse after putting in a great effort in the field on a hot afternoon having lost the toss.

Stoke D’Abernon won by 38 runs
Stoke began life in Division 3 with an excellent win despite a total washout of their pre-season programme.
The Western Province Cricket Club awards night took place last Friday, (16th), and two Stokers received awards.
Shawn’s trophy is in recognition of his 6-for against Milnerton CC, (scorecard : http://www.websports.co.za/cricket/live.html?gid=81871&iid=2&dbl=true), and Hoppy bagged ten in WPCC’s match against Ottoman CC to earn his.
What a difference a week or so makes. Going into the last week of the regular season with qualification uncertain, Perth won their final group game against the Melbourne Renegades to make the semi-finals against the Sydney Thunder.
Nat made runs, (she also made runs against the Renegades), took catches and effected a run out to help secure a place on Sunday morning’s final.
A good Day 1 for Western Province and the Stoke contingent had a big say.
Hoppy bagged 4 for 65 from 17 overs, (Shawn 6-3-21-0), to restrict Durbanville to 196 for 9 in their allotted 60 first innings overs.
In reply, WPCC were going well at 78 for 1, but Shawn found himself at the crease with the scoreboard showing 101 for 6. A century stand and an unbeaten 54 followed, though, to secure the first innings points and a lead of 21 at the end of Day 1.
A good couple of days for our Stokers around the world.
