Sunday Round Up – One Win, One Loss

Sunday 11th August 2019

The week started with excellent availability to source a second fixture. The traditional number of drop outs, including four on the Saturday, one at 10.30pm and another tried to bail on the Sunday morning but was turned around, made for a bit of a late scramble but 21 players helped make two games; each side posting a similar score but with a different result. Sunday Cricket : Two Wins. One run feast, one feast of insanity

Sunday 30th June 2019
Famine to feast again on the availability front and we had numbers to play two Sunday fixtures this weekend, thus avoiding the difficult decision of having to tell a handful of people that they had no game. Plans were hastily changed when the original opposition called an hour after the second fixture was booked to say they couldn’t raise a side; but we found a replacement opposition well known to us selected the sides accordingly. Stoke D’Abernon won by 99 runs

A new poster boy for a Sunday XI match report as Saud Ahmed hit 87 on home debut, (after a second ball duck the previous day on Club debut), to help Stoke post a formidable total that, one player aside, the opposition looked unlikely to chase. Read more

A big and morale boosting win for Stoke’s Sunday XI as the batting line up, boosted by a bit of senior assistance from Jase Earl, racked up a formidable total; then a bowling attack that could easily have gone out together in the previous day’s League fixture were any of them available did a great job as a unit. Sunday 12th May 2019
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 148 all out (39.3 overs)

Odney won by 9 wickets

An uncharacteristic performance by Stoke’s Sunday XI saw them crash to a nine wicket defeat to new opponents Odney who enquired about a fixture last weekend but were just too late. This week they got in early when we placed our ad and brought a very sociable side along who stayed behind quite a while afterwards. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon 186 for 9 (40 overs)
Walton-on-Thames won by 8 runs

Stoke suffered a narrow defeat in their opening Trust League match of the year in a game they were well placed to win at drinks during the chase, then seemingly out of it five overs later, but then almost pulling off the improbable with Club competition record 9th and 10th wicket partnerships. Friendly
Battersea Eagles 168 for 7 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 125 all out (34.3 overs)

The Sunday XI opened their season with a defeat but the sensible decision to ensure everyone got overs & fielding into their legs and the batsmen time in the middle at the expense of the result was the right one. Read more

In a tremendous advert for Sunday cricket Stoke renewed acquaintances with Merrow after the latter replied to our ad that we were only able to place after Moumer Khara and Doug Gilbertson found extra resources to complete a side, a prospect that looked unlikely following the Saturday selection needing resources.
