Sunday XI end the 2012 season with a win

Sunday 30th September 2012
Stoke D’Abernon 163 all out (35.2 overs)
The Min CC 136 all out (39.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 27 runs

Stoke’s Sunday XI ended the season on a high with a 27 run win over The Min CC – unusual club name, interesting web-site, but shared belief on commitment to extend the season by another week. The week started with Stoke short on numbers; advert placed for anyone keen on a short-sided game; e-mails received…and in the end both sides ended up with an XI, a number of the opposition travelling a long way to take part.

A second century in as many innings for Nick Lo, the first player to hit back to back hundreds for the club since Thiru Madhavan in 2000, (http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/individualPerformanceResults.asp?seasonID=11&userID=10729297), as Stoke registered a big win against new friends from Hunton Wanderers.

Near neighbours Stoke and Maori Oxshott played out an enjoyable 40-over friendly match at Steels Lane.

Following Brook’s cancellation of our league game, a match was hastily arranged against Freshwater CC – a touring side from the Isle of Wight. Debutants star but Sunday XI denied by the Cryptics

Sunday Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 193 for 9 dec (43 overs)
Surrey Cryptics 128 for 7 (41 overs)
Match Drawn

Player unavailability, notably due to exam commitments, led to a new look Sunday XI taking the field for the first fixture of the season.

Dan Douthwaite, Donovan Hall and Rowland Prytherch were given club debuts, and all three left positive entries on the scorecard by the time stumps were drawn. Stoke were unable to force a win due to lower order resistance on a very slow pitch, (just 153 runs were scored off the bat in 78.3 overs for the loss of 20 wickets on the same strip the previous day.)
