Without players’ scores displayed on the board and the scorers tucked safely away in the shade of the Clubhouse, Ollie John was unaware that a six off the final ball of Stoke’s innings would have brought him a first century in any form of cricket. He swatted it over cow for four to finish unbeaten on 99 to help post a total of 211 for 4 in 40 overs after Will Thomson won the toss and elected to bat on a warm afternoon.

Stoke progressed to the next round of the Surrey Championship T20 with a superb all-round team performance where every player left something positive on the scorecard. By their own admission at the toss the home side “scraped” a team together, but Stoke faced the same challenge, plus the lengthy round trip that included a closed M3 on the way home.
