Sunday XI v Concorde 18 06 2017

Sunday XI One Wicket Away

Sunday 18th June 2017
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 236 for 5 declared (43 overs)
Concorde 179 for 9 (40 overs)
Match Drawn

The hottest day of the year saw Stoke and Concorde play out a draw at Sendholme.

Batting first, Doug Gilbertson was originally listed at No.3 but faced the first ball of the match as the person originally selected for the role was sat on the roller at Stoke with less than 20 minutes to the start. After a quiet opening maiden, it was anything but at the start of the second over as debutant Ishan Mulchandani drilled the first two balls he faced through the covers and mid-off, then pulled the third along the ground through mid-wicket – not a bad way to start your Stoke career – and he hit another four before the over was out.

T20 Cup Victory at Camberley

Tuesday 16th May 2017
Surrey Championship T20 – Round 1
Camberley 107 all out (19.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 111 for 3 (14.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 7 wickets

Stoke progressed to the next round of the Surrey Championship T20 with a superb all-round team performance where every player left something positive on the scorecard. By their own admission at the toss the home side “scraped” a team together, but Stoke faced the same challenge, plus the lengthy round trip that included a closed M3 on the way home.

A fixture that was in jeopardy on Friday due to late drop outs, including the author of this report, was fulfilled due to some much appreciated assistance from those who played in the League the previous day, and a highly entertaining game was played out where all results were possible going into the closing overs.

Sunday 30th April 2017

Merrow 160 all out (34.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 155 for 6 (40 overs)
Merrow won by 5 runs

In a tremendous advert for Sunday cricket Stoke renewed acquaintances with Merrow after the latter replied to our ad that we were only able to place after Moumer Khara and Doug Gilbertson found extra resources to complete a side, a prospect that looked unlikely following the Saturday selection needing resources.

Demands of the 1st XI left the 2nd XI a little short this week but they kept going in the field and should take a lot into their League campaign.

Neighbours Stoke and Oxshott met at Steels Lane and in a repeat of last year the home side were giving the majority of their 1st XI a first run out of the season, Stoke’s XI was more geared to a Sunday/2nd XI fixture and the consequences were inevitable.

SDCC 3s v Normandy Ali Curran

Opening Day Defeat

Saturday 15th April 2017
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 194 for 5 (40 overs)
London Tigers (Southall) CC 197 for 8 (33.2 overs)
London Tigers (Southall) CC won by 2 wickets

A mixed XI from Stoke’s playing resources kicked off the 2017 season and suffered defeat despite having control for long periods. Losing having taken six of the opposition’s wickets in the first 10.5 overs of the fielding effort is one of the more bizarre ways to lose a game, but credit to the opposition who stayed committed to their brand of cricket and hoped a couple of players would come off.
