Sunday 30th April 2017
Friendly
Merrow 160 all out (34.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 155 for 6 (40 overs)
Merrow won by 5 runs

In a tremendous advert for Sunday cricket Stoke renewed acquaintances with Merrow after the latter replied to our ad that we were only able to place after Moumer Khara and Doug Gilbertson found extra resources to complete a side, a prospect that looked unlikely following the Saturday selection needing resources.

Logie’s Birthday Missions : 29 completed, 41 to Go

Yesterday evening saw Logie complete his 29th catch-up mission, (of 70 in his calendar so far), for his 70th birthday.

For those who don’t know Logie, he was Stoke’s 1s skipper in 1997 and 1998, (he also captained the 2s for part of 1995, all of 1996 and all of 2000), and assembled a squad of Stokers to help celebrate his birthday, (not until April!), at The Plough over the road from the Club yesterday evening.

Over 40s In Pre-Season

For years Stoke has offered cricket for everyone; 1s, 2s, 3s, Sunday XI, age group from U7-U17, Surrey Trust League, Under 19 T20 Blast, Friendly T20 & Long-Format, Women & Girls T20 & Long-Format to name just a few.

In 2016 an Over 40s squad was assembled for the first time. Affectionately known as “Dads & Pads” and made up mainly of colts’ parents, (but anyone over the age of 40 is welcome to join in and having children is not a pre-requisite!), the team defeated the mighty Weybridge in their inaugural match last May.

League Dinner

Yesterday evening Stokers were out in force at The Oval for the 49th Surrey Championship Annual Dinner.

Sat at one table, (pictured), were Toby Tarrant, (who doubled up as our other table’s wine waiter for part of the evening – see below), Will Frost, Dan Gluckman, Charlie Hill, James Trower, James Whitmarsh, Jack Raimondo and Will Gudgeon. Will also brought along a newbie for next year in the form of his mate Kane. It was great to see Billy Newman there too who we hope to see back on the field next season.
