With good availability the Team Secretary was tasked with sourcing a fixture for an additional XI and an early offer was received from our friends at Hampton Wick Royal. Fifteen available became eight by the Friday afternoon, said TS one of the casualties when his body reminded him on Thursday that running suicidal singles was a thing of decades past. Read more

3rd XI Victorious. McMillan 70, Hafeez 57. 2s Lose.

Saturday 23rd June 2018
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI 197 for 8 (40 overs)
Epsom Methodists 175 for 8 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won by 22 runs

Good availability at the beginning of the week allowed us to accept the offer of an invitation to play the Epsom Methodists. EMCC are one of our traditional ‘Sunday XI’ opponents but a crammed fixture programme at the Rec meant this was one we had to miss this year…so it was great when they were able to host a Saturday game and enough of our ‘I’ll play either day’ candidates were able to attend. Stoke D’Abernon 127 for 9 (40 overs)
Badgers 130 for 5 (30.1 overs)
Badgers won by 5 wickets

An unbroken stand of 59 runs, the last 41 of them coming in the space of just 24 balls, brought an unexpectedly early finish to a match that looked like it was going to go the distance, the Badgers emerging victorious for the first time in this fixture since 2013. Read more

2nd Ten lose to Old Ruts

Friendly
Old Rutlishians 2nd XI 184 all out (45 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 89 all out (39.2 overs)
Old Rutlishians 2nd XI won by 95 runs

Stoke’s 2s still had more of a Sunday side look to it with a number of regulars unavailable or called up to the 1st XI, but they bowled the opposition out on a pitch where you needed to work hard for your wickets, an effort all the more commendable having fallen back to ten players after a plethora of team changes during the week. Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final.
