Quiz Night Review

Saturday saw the latest Quiz Night at the Club that was well attended with a good spread of ages and representation from the various sections.

Quiz Master Peter Andrew did a tremendous job as always, this year showing a never before seen, (or needed), talent for crowd control with a group of well-oiled 1st XI players carrying on their day after the rugby and other various sporting & social events!

Surrey Cryptics won by 1 wicket

For the second day running, (and on the same strip), a Stoke XI lost at home by one wicket; but the disappointment of losing this one was far outweighed by the way the sides approached things.

It wasn’t as epic a block-out as Atherton & Russell in the 1990s but Stoke’s Sunday XI had to settle for a draw after dominating pretty much all of this match; their bowling attack containing a lot of the same unable to force a win.

Awards Night Review

A good attendance at HQ last Saturday for the Annual Awards, despite the weather and other commitments, eg. overseas cricket commitments, university, dinners, holidays…

Fresh from celebrating their Championship at the Brit Oval the previous evening, the 2nd XI carried on and MC Drew Patrick made another formal presentation of the shield to 2nd XI captain Matt Gottschalk. Whilst on his feet, Matt was also given back the Australia Cup for the best overall contribution to the 2nd XI, having won the player’s vote last year as well.

Our club welcomed a good crowd of former players and Vice Presidents to the Rec yesterday for the annual match between a VPs team, captained by Roy Johns and a Stoke 11, captained for the first time this year by Matt Gottschalk.
