Ahead of Sunday’s friendly against the Harrow Wayfarers, (half of*), Alan’s ashes were buried at the Stoke Rec.
The ceremony was led by Alan’s partner Elaine, and Paul Worsfiold, six time Stoke captain and Alan’s nephew, also said a few words. Read more
St.Andrews Church was packed yesterday as a huge number turned out to pay their respects to Alan.
A formidable line-up of current and former Stoke players with a combined 60839 runs and 6511 wickets between them, plus former Club President David Pappin, took up a corner of the church but formed a low percentage of the attendees, such was the turnout. Read more
With thoughts turning to Alan’s funeral tomorrow, one of many things he did for the membership – before the days of the internet and other instant messaging and social media, (and the Play Cricket network) – was to produce “Cover Point” – a periodic newsletter that was posted to all members.
