Curran v Worcester Park - August 2017

Curran Century in Trust League win at Worcester Park

Sunday 6th August 2017
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 228 for 8 (40 overs)
Worcester Park 139 all out (29.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 89 runs

A 65-ball century, (eventually out for 121 off 79), from Alastair Curran helped set up a great win for 10-player Stoke at Worcester Park. (Note not ten-man here as Anya Devon-Berry created a bit of history by being the first female player to play Under 21 Trust League cricket for the Club.)

Ollie John 99 not out v Old Whitgiftians

Ollie John 99 Not Out in Trust League Defeat

Sunday 2nd July 2017
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 211 for 4 (40 overs)
Old Whitgiftians 212 for 4 (35.5 overs)
Old Whitgiftians won by 6 wickets

Without players’ scores displayed on the board and the scorers tucked safely away in the shade of the Clubhouse, Ollie John was unaware that a six off the final ball of Stoke’s innings would have brought him a first century in any form of cricket. He swatted it over cow for four to finish unbeaten on 99 to help post a total of 211 for 4 in 40 overs after Will Thomson won the toss and elected to bat on a warm afternoon.

Battersea Ironsides 2nd XI 206 for 7 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 17 runs

A day to remember for Adam De Swardt as he made an unbeaten 100 to lay the foundation for a good win that was more comfortable than the final winning margin of 17 runs suggested.

Academy Tea at Old Ruts

Trust League defeat at Old Ruts

Sunday 7th August 2016
Surrey Trust League
Old Rutlishians 280 for 8 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 158 for 9 (40 overs)
Old Rutlishians won by 122 runs

Match Report by Will Thomson…

Our penultimate Trust League fixture of the season saw a youthful Stoke side run into a well-drilled, more experienced Old Ruts side. Whilst the 122 run loss did show that Stoke still have work to do to compete with some of the bigger clubs, we perhaps deserved more having toiled in the field on a hot day after been asked to bowl first.

Under 19s show Learning and Progress

Friday 29th July 2016
Nat West Under 19 T20 Blast
Maori Oxshott Tikis 115 all out (18.4 overs)
Stoke Slayers 119 for 2 (17 overs)
Stoke Slayers won by 8 wickets

Stoke’s stop-start Under 19 T20 Blast campaign finally got going again, and their points total and net-run-rate received a nice shot in the arm with an efficient win at Oxshott; untidy in places, notably the extras conceded count, but overall whole a very good night’s work.

Sunday 26th June 2016
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 218 for 7 declared (43 overs)
Surrey Cryptics 124 for 7 (42 overs)
Match Drawn

It wasn’t as epic a block-out as Atherton & Russell in the 1990s but Stoke’s Sunday XI had to settle for a draw after dominating pretty much all of this match; their bowling attack containing a lot of the same unable to force a win.

Stoke Academy v Malden Wanderers - May 2016

Academy start Trust League Campaign with Big Win

Sunday 29th May 2016
Surrey Trust League
Malden Wanderers 143 all out (38.3 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 146 for 1 (26.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 9 wickets

“We got schooled” was the verdict of the Malden Wanderers coach as Stoke’s Academy commenced their 2016 Surrey Trust League campaign with a commanding performance at the Rec. The visitors were only able to fulfil the fixture after their Under 15s match was cancelled, and their young side ran into a well-drilled Stoke unit that was a little older and stronger all round.

Sunday XI win well

Sunday 22nd May 2016
Friendly
Battersea Eagles 144 all out (32 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 145 for 3 (27.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 7 wickets

Stoke’s Sunday XI recorded a comfortable win against a replacement opposition after The Vultures e-mailed to say they were unable to fulfil the fixture. Battersea Eagles, (a hitherto unknown quantity other than a few of them used to play League cricket at Sinjungrammarians), were the opposition of choice from the replies to the advert for a fixture, and the choice was a good one as they had similar views on the ethos of Sunday cricket to ours.

Sunday XI draw with the Harrow Wayfarers

Sunday 8th May 2016
Harrow Wayfarers 151 all out (42.5 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 95 for 7 (40 overs)
Match Drawn

Fun in the sun as Stoke and the Harrow Wayfarers played out a slow-paced friendly match at the Rec.

With members of the opposition arriving late due to traffic the match kicked off 20 minutes after the scheduled start with a ‘negotiated’ toss seeing Stoke take the field first; and new-ball pair Adrian Mills and Richie Parrett wasted no time tucking into a re-juggled top order.
