Stokers Better/Worse than Virat Kohli

This week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at one of the poorer sides of Virat Kohli’s game. The question and the answer was:

Q : Does Virat Kohli have the worst average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs in ODIs?

A : Virat Kohli has so far taken four wickets in one-day internationals, for an average of 166.25. That is indeed the highest average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs. Next comes an Indian captain of a much earlier vintage, S Venkataraghavan, whose five ODI wickets cost him 108.40 apiece. Pommie Mbwangwa of Zimbabwe, (11 wickets at 103.63), also ended up with a three-figure average. Read more

Godalming 288 for 7 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 188 all out (29.5 overs)
Godalming won by 100 runs

Whilst the scorecard doesn’t lie a lot of good things could still be taken out of this one and if some of the errors can be ironed out between now and the return fixture on the 5th August hopefully we will see a reversal of this result and progress up the table. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon 186 all out (32.4 overs)
Walton-on-Thames 187 for 6 (32.4 overs)
Walton-on-Thames won by 4/(2?) wickets

While England were hitting Panama for six in Russia, before the World Cup draw was made last winter the Trust League fixture computer got in first and allocated us fixture at Walton-on-Thames. Will T and the Team Sec worked tirelessly through the week to assemble an XI. Thanks to all those who helped with an appearance – we had no game without you. The opposition had an U21 AND a Development Trust XI team to find(!) and with priority going to the U21 League Stoke faced a team of nine. Read more

A 65-ball century, (eventually out for 121 off 79), from Alastair Curran helped set up a great win for 10-player Stoke at Worcester Park. Ollie John 99 Not Out in Trust League Defeat

Sunday 2nd July 2017
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 211 for 4 (40 overs)
Old Whitgiftians 212 for 4 (35.5 overs)
Old Whitgiftians won by 6 wickets

Without players’ scores displayed on the board and the scorers tucked safely away in the shade of the Clubhouse, Ollie John was unaware that a six off the final ball of Stoke’s innings would have brought him a first century in any form of cricket. He swatted it over cow for four to finish unbeaten on 99 to help post a total of 211 for 4 in 40 overs after Will Thomson won the toss and elected to bat on a warm afternoon. Read more

Trust League defeat at Old Ruts

Surrey Trust League
Old Rutlishians 280 for 8 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 158 for 9 (40 overs)
Old Rutlishians won by 122 runs

Match Report by Will Thomson…

Our penultimate Trust League fixture of the season saw a youthful Stoke side run into a well-drilled, more experienced Old Ruts side. Whilst the 122 run loss did show that Stoke still have work to do to compete with some of the bigger clubs, we perhaps deserved more having toiled in the field on a hot day after been asked to bowl first. Nat West Under 19 T20 Blast
Maori Oxshott Tikis 115 all out (18.4 overs)
Stoke Slayers 119 for 2 (17 overs)
Stoke Slayers won by 8 wickets

Stoke’s stop-start Under 19 T20 Blast campaign finally got going again, and their points total and net-run-rate received a nice shot in the arm with an efficient win at Oxshott; untidy in places, notably the extras conceded count, but overall whole a very good night’s work. Read more

Sunday 26th June 2016
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 218 for 7 declared (43 overs)
Surrey Cryptics 124 for 7 (42 overs)
Match Drawn

It wasn’t as epic a block-out as Atherton & Russell in the 1990s but Stoke’s Sunday XI had to settle for a draw after dominating pretty much all of this match; their bowling attack containing a lot of the same unable to force a win. Read more

Malden Wanderers 143 all out (38.3 overs)

Stoke D’Abernon won by 9 wickets

“We got schooled” was the verdict of the Malden Wanderers coach as Stoke’s Academy commenced their 2016 Surrey Trust League campaign with a commanding performance at the Rec. The visitors were only able to fulfil the fixture after their Under 15s match was cancelled, and their young side ran into a well-drilled Stoke unit that was a little older and stronger all round.
