Choosing to bat first after the late arrival of the opposition led to a forfeiture of the toss, Stoke skipper Jack Raimondo was an early casualty when he clipped a ball from Parth Vyas to mid-wicket.

A majestic century from Hiken Shah backed up an efficient bowling display as a depleted Stoke side cruised to a six wicket win over Godalming at the Rec. The win was even more satisfying as Stoke’s strength in depth was put to the test with a number of absentees due to holidays, weddings, christenings and other commitments.

Two of Stoke’s recent failings in limited overs cricket; not batting their overs and an inability to mop up the tail; came back to haunt them in a big way as Hampton Wick Royal found the resolve to turn a position of near defeat into victory.

Match Drawn
Player unavailability, notably due to exam commitments, led to a new look Sunday XI taking the field for the first fixture of the season.
Dan Douthwaite, Donovan Hall and Rowland Prytherch were given club debuts, and all three left positive entries on the scorecard by the time stumps were drawn. Stoke were unable to force a win due to lower order resistance on a very slow pitch, (just 153 runs were scored off the bat in 78.3 overs for the loss of 20 wickets on the same strip the previous day.)

Stoke’s senior players finally made it on to the field in a hastily arranged T20 fixture at Cobham Avorians.
The hosts worked wonders to get their ground playable, and to make sure light wasn’t a factor late on, the sides played out a reduced 16 over match; all the bowling from one end, and a mat covering the bowlers’ run ups to reduce injury.
