Firstly a thanks to Maori Oxshott for flipping this fixture to theirs to give us the chance of an additional home Sunday fixture. Excellent hospitality as always, and a fun game where both sides played to a finish despite some pretty horrible rain for the last section of the chase.

By Thursday morning this match looked highly unlikely as a succession of injuries, other withdrawals and an alarming absence of regulars left us with just four players and a reluctant fifth. Our thanks to Bank of England CC for giving us enough time to have another ring-around – miraculously an XI was completed and we kept one of our best Sunday fixtures alive.

The Over 40s has their second run out of the season and a patched up side that was only completed hours before the start fell to a defeat against welcoming hosts.

With good availability in addition to the Trust League fixture, Stoke’s Sunday XI got an extra game this weekend despite having no call on any of the younger players with the exception of the promising Sameer Khara.

Alleyn 2nd XI won by 7 runs
Stoke’s 2nd XI missed the chance to go back into the promotion places when two bunches of wickets in the batting effort undid an excellent performance in the field with a wet ball.

For the second day running, (and on the same strip), a Stoke XI lost at home by one wicket; but the disappointment of losing this one was far outweighed by the way the sides approached things.

Stoke’s Sunday XI completed a clean sweep of senior cricket victories at the weekend with a successful run chase at The Rec. Lots of familiar faces in the visitors’ line-up when they arrived, but they advertised themselves as “stronger than usual” and hustled Rod Thomson into giving them first use of the strip.
