Jase Earl v Ripley 2015

Strong New Look Oxshott XI defeat Stoke’s Sunday XI

Sunday 23rd April 2017
Friendly
Maori Oxshott 265 for 6 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 127 for 9 (40 overs)
Maori Oxshott won by 138 runs

Neighbours Stoke and Oxshott met at Steels Lane and in a repeat of last year the home side were giving the majority of their 1st XI a first run out of the season, Stoke’s XI was more geared to a Sunday/2nd XI fixture and the consequences were inevitable.

Opening Day Defeat

Saturday 15th April 2017
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 194 for 5 (40 overs)
London Tigers (Southall) CC 197 for 8 (33.2 overs)
London Tigers (Southall) CC won by 2 wickets

A mixed XI from Stoke’s playing resources kicked off the 2017 season and suffered defeat despite having control for long periods. Losing having taken six of the opposition’s wickets in the first 10.5 overs of the fielding effort is one of the more bizarre ways to lose a game, but credit to the opposition who stayed committed to their brand of cricket and hoped a couple of players would come off.

An exciting game to end the Sunday XI’s 2016 season, Stoke coming up nine runs short after some terrific death bowling by Kingstonian in a game that saw 451 runs including 8 sixes and 44 fours.

2nd XI win at Alleyn to finish 4th

Saturday 3rd September 2016

Alleyn 2nd XI 159 for 9 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 109 for 6 (25 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won on Faster Scoring Rate

The fixture computer had a laugh at our expense, sending us to the furthest away ground for a 12 noon start, but on arrival the clubs played out three-quarters of a game to finish the League season; Stoke eventually winning on run-rate in a match that had similar duration to the 1st XI match.

Andy Berry 80 v Chertsey

2nd XI come up just short of Chertsey total

Saturday 21st May 2016
Travelbag Surrey Championship – Division 4 – 2nd XI Competition
Chertsey 2nd XI 245 for 8 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 234 for 7 (50 overs)
Chertsey 2nd XI won by 11 runs

Thankfully there was no Peter Moores-esque data available to analyse after this one or we would all have gone crazy, but Stoke were left scratching their heads as this one got away. Perhaps the concession of a few too many in the field and a few missed run-scoring opportunities after tea proved decisive; nevertheless a patched up side savaged by 1st XI call-ups, the lack of a sixth bowler and a midweek injury to one of our starlets, put in a tremendous effort and nearly pulled off a great win in a great game on a good pitch.

Kempton 2nd XI 207 all out (45.5 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 117 all out (46.4 overs)
Kempton 2nd XI won by 90 runs

Hopefully just a bump in the road for the 2nd XI as they were unable to back up their opening day win against a Kempton 2nd XI on the up after recent promotions.
