Sunday Round Up – President’s XI win big. Sunday XI lose but have fun at Oxted

Sunday 7th July 2019
With a number of players who wouldn’t normally commit to a Sunday supporting the President’s Day match, to avoid disappointing others who wouldn’t have otherwise got a game, again we raised two sides with another XI going to Oxted & Limpsfield. Contrasting fortunes for the teams but many positives. Read more

Sunday Cricket : Two Wins. One run feast, one feast of insanity

Sunday 30th June 2019
Famine to feast again on the availability front and we had numbers to play two Sunday fixtures this weekend, thus avoiding the difficult decision of having to tell a handful of people that they had no game. Plans were hastily changed when the original opposition called an hour after the second fixture was booked to say they couldn’t raise a side; but we found a replacement opposition well known to us selected the sides accordingly. Great Effort by the Sunday XI

Sunday 23rd June 2019
Friendly
Chiswick 229 for 7 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 213 for 7 (40 overs)
Chiswick won by 16 runs

After Saturday’s League games attention turned to the friendly side of the programme and after a nice chat Chiswick were chosen from those who answered our advert looking for a weaker opposition; we pitched at that level after a couple of defeats last week and a few senior heads away this. Sunday Defeats (x2) but two Fixtures Fulfilled

Sunday 16th June 2019

Excellent availability after last weekend’s sheets came in led to us investigating a second Sunday fixture. As appears to be the norm the pool of 25 available fell back to 18 once the fixtures had been booked(!) but planning ahead for this we booked in Battersea Eagles for the game at Stoke knowing that if we did have any availability issues, our good friend Khalid Harris would probably be able to bring a spare or two – after a ring around of our own for extra resources we sent an XI to Thames Ditton, (although the curse continued as only ten showed!), and gave Stoke debuts to two loan signings at the Rec. Sunday XI Win by 99

Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 252 all out (38.5 overs)
Allstars of Chichester 153 all out (28.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 99 runs

A new poster boy for a Sunday XI match report as Saud Ahmed hit 87 on home debut, (after a second ball duck the previous day on Club debut), to help Stoke post a formidable total that, one player aside, the opposition looked unlikely to chase. Read more

Century for Harry Nawaz as the 3s win at Cheam

Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI 208 all out (38 overs)
Cheam 4th XI 195 for 7 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won by 13 runs

Whilst looking at the board for a Sunday fixture an advert from Cheam appeared to say that Dorking has scratched the intended league fixture against them and they were looking for a friendly opposition to fill in. Read more

Andy B 98 in defeat for the 2s

Saturday 25th May 2019
AJ Fordham Surrey Championship – 2nd XI competition
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 219 all out (47.1 overs)
Kingstonian 2nd XI 212 for 8 (36.1 overs)
Kingstonian 2nd XI won by 2 wickets

One that got away from the 2s as they batted themselves into a great position only to lose a cluster of wickets when well set; then they had the opposition seven down with 45 still needed but a belligerent number nine smashed off the rest. Read more

6000 Career Runs for the President

Sunday 19th May 2019
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 174 for 9 (40 overs)
Maori Oxshott 178 for 6 (34.5 overs)
Maori Oxshott won by 4 wickets

A marked improvement on last week’s performance for the Sunday XI.

In the end the team were left to rue a shortage of runs again, but they made Oxshott work very hard for the win, and it took three of their players to register career best scores to get the job done. Read more
