Clear the Beer II (1)

…and many more stopped back to have a few beers and some food afterwards.

Applying an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach following our excellent 2016 season, most of the roles and responsibilities for 2017 remain unchanged. James Trower continues as Club Captain, likewise Jase Earl retains his role skippering the 2nd XI. Read more

2nd XI Champions in 2008

With Pagie reminiscing about the 1st XI’s promotion day out at Sanderstead in 2008, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2017/02/04/my-greatest-xi-andy-page/), the same day the 2nd XI crushed Lingfield to secure the Championship of the 2nd XI competition. Five of Richie P’s greatest XI, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2016/12/11/stoke-dabernon-advent-calendar-2016-11/), were in the side that day, and a few were out with Logie last week. Logie’s Birthday Missions : 29 completed, 41 to Go

For those who don’t know Logie, he was Stoke’s 1s skipper in 1997 and 1998, (he also captained the 2s for part of 1995, all of 1996 and all of 2000), and assembled a squad of Stokers to help celebrate his birthday, (not until April!), at The Plough over the road from the Club yesterday evening. Tributes to Alan Wiseman flood in

We were very saddened to learn that Stoke legend Alan Wiseman, passed away at the weekend.

Within hours of the new breaking Stokers in the UK and around the world have sent in their tributes:

Chris Gudgeon : “Very sad to hear of his passing. I cherish great memories…his dogs often left to roam the Rec during games…his rather unreliable Volvo cars…his thespian skills with the Cobham Players…The Folk Club. But overall my abiding thoughts are of his huge love for the Cclub…all of us heard of his dismissals being delivered by future Test players…caused by giraffes but Alan was a great competitor. He also served the club as Chairman…and was always around…Committee meetings it is fair to say we’re amusingly chaotic…but full of good memories. Will miss you Alan…puff away on that pipe in the clubhouse in the sky.” Read more

Missing Sunday Result from 2000 found

The Ginger Prince called SDCC on Monday to advise that one of Wisley Southside’s players had left his kit bag at HQ after Sunday’s match, so it was moved to a safer place ready for collection at Wednesday’s club nets practice.

The visitors kept score in an old pre-merger Southside CC book that was also left on the bar. It contained a handful of results back to the 2000 season; one of them was against Stoke, which we didn’t have, but have now added to the records. (The 2000 Stoke Sunday scorebook has sadly vanished.) Read more
