Stokers Better/Worse than Virat Kohli

This week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at one of the poorer sides of Virat Kohli’s game. The question and the answer was:

Q : Does Virat Kohli have the worst average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs in ODIs?

A : Virat Kohli has so far taken four wickets in one-day internationals, for an average of 166.25. That is indeed the highest average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs. Next comes an Indian captain of a much earlier vintage, S Venkataraghavan, whose five ODI wickets cost him 108.40 apiece. Pommie Mbwangwa of Zimbabwe, (11 wickets at 103.63), also ended up with a three-figure average. Read more

3rd XI win at Blackheath

3rd XI Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI 228 for 6 (40 overs)
Blackheath 3rd XI 197 for 7 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won

Stoke were able to raise a third side, (just about!), at the weekend and received an invite from Blackheath, the match sourced by Stoke Chairman Drew Patrick who was in a meeting with the opposition’s Chairman earlier in the week. They were more than welcoming hosts and kindly provided a couple of players to complete the XI after late-drop-out-itis struck again. Read more

Sunday XI draw with Hampton Hill

Sunday 27th July 2014 – Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 220 for 7 declared (36 overs)
Hampton Hill 128 for 7 (45 overs)
Match Drawn

Hampton Hill made a welcome return to the Stoke Rec after a number of years of being off the card, we speculated that it was the lengthening of the League programme in the mid-1990s that meant something had to give. (One of the opposition remembered the old changing rooms being behind the bowler’s arm at the Blundell Lane end the last time he played here, and was unaware of the current clubhouse being where it is today!) Sunday XI win big again

Sunday 13th July 2014 – Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon 217 for 7 (40 overs)
Woking XI CC 86 all out (21 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 131 runs

This match was only possible due to the efforts of Rod Thomson and James Trower who did an unbelievable job getting the number of players available to a point where the best Surrey Trust League side could be selected, then a sufficient balance of players could ensure a Sunday side had a game. Sunday XI complete the double over the Old Ashfordians

Sunday 6th July 2014
Old Ashfordians 170 for 7 declared (44 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 172 for 7 (32.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won 3 wickets

Stoke’s Sunday XI continued their winning run with a successful run chase at the Rec. Firstly some massive votes of thanks : to Jo Patrick for sorting a tea a late notice after some late selection changes across the two Sunday sides; to Andy Page for running the game, and to Will Thomson for sourcing two last minute call-ups to complete the side and save Chris Finch, (who forgot it was his birthday when he gave his availability), a long trip to Stoke. Sunday XI defeat Magdalen

Sunday Friendly
Magdalen 184 all out (41.5 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 188 for 6 (34.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 4 wickets

Stoke’s Sunday XI returned to winning ways with a successful run chase against Magdalen.

The visitors chose to bat and made the worst possible start when Hogg fended the first ball of the match, a lifting delivery from Dan Douthwaite, to Michael Dolman behind the stumps. In the second over Ralph Coleman pinned Rowlands; so M.Connaghton and Whiteman had to dig in to the point that 22 runs were scored from the first nine overs. Read more
