2nd XI beat Valley End

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 157 for 5 (20 overs)
Valley End 2nd XI 130 for 8 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 27 runs

After a long run without a win came to an end last week Stoke’s 2nd XI registered back to back victories, a highly sporting Valley End side coming out second best but earned much praise for making a game happen that could easily have been called. For the second week running a Guildford XI was sent home in defeat; this time Stoke’s second string recording their first victory of the season with a commanding performance. Read more

Career Runs in Sixes

Mr Handel from Cobham contacted the Club to ask what proportion of runs he and his peers have made in 6s. In some rare down-time over the Christmas period we’ve now managed to put a couple of things together that we hope answers his query.

Narrow Defeat for the 1st XI

Old Rutlishians 220 for 6 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 214 all out (48.5 overs)
Old Rutlishians won by 6 runs

The previous week’s results meant this wasn’t the expected title decider, but Stoke and Old Ruts showed why they were the best two sides in the division by serving up a tremendous match to end the League season where all results were possible going into the final few deliveries. Read more

‘Winning Draw’ to Old Rutlishians

A high quality 2nd v 1st match where all results were possible going into the final overs saw Old Rutlishians, who occupied top spot, bat out the final few balls to maintain their position. Stoke dropped to fourth in the table due to other results but are still very much in touch. Read more

“Hoppy” has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. Mr.Reliable in many ways, I can’t think of a game where he hasn’t contributed with either the ball, the bat or in the field. I’ll put him at the top of the order because the rest of this line-up likes to have a slog and we need someone to at least try and stick around. Plus we need him to lead the warm up and roll the wicket. Read more

Epsom won by 89 runs

All of the Stoke 1st XI matches this season have been won by the side batting first and the trend continued at The Rec as another good bowling and fielding display – for some part with a man down – on a generally unresponsive pitch was met with a short second innings. Read more
