Stoke’s Academy were second best for the first quarter of their latest Surrey Trust League match but ultimately ran out confortable winners after the bowlers, led by Jake Lavender who took career best figures of 5 for 25, helped dismiss former competition winners Beddington for 175, then the batsmen knocked the runs off in just 31.3 overs. The match was originally scheduled to be played at Ripley, but the fixture was switched to the Stoke Rec at the eleventh hour so that Ripley could host a 3rd round fixture in the Fuller’s League Cup. Read more

Sunday XI tie with Newdigate

Newdigate CC v Stoke D’Abernon – Sunday 17 April 2011 

The first Sunday match of the season produced a very entertaining tie at Newdigate, in which both teams were on top for periods, but neither could finish the opposition off.

Having arrived with only 10 men available this early in the year, we were fortunate to discover that the home side had 12. We were given spin bowler Matt Dilger for the day. Malcolm won the toss and decided to bat first, with the weather expected to cloud over as the day went on. Read more

For the third year running, CIMA sponsored a tour to the UK for twelve up and coming Canadian cricketers. Stoke’s run to the Surrey Championship T20 Finals Day last year meant a postponement of the inaugural fixture, but the teams met for a Tuesday morning match at the Stoke Rec for a highly entertaining game, followed by a lunch before the tourists set off for an afternoon match against Wimbledon.
