Best Ever Stoke Bowlers in the Surrey Championship?

So we’re about to start our 11th season in the Surrey Championship, and our first in Division 2 after three successive promotions.

Whilst our progress through the divisions has relied on a combination of batting, bowling, fielding and keeping excellences, not to mention tremendous team spirit and the support network behind the scenes; an article on CricInfo appeared in the off-season penned by Anantha Narayanan who chose to look at the role played by the bowlers in the success of any team. T20 defeat but good workout at Weybridge

Weybridge 140 for 8 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 68 all out (16 overs)

Despite the result this was a productive workout for Stoke with a number of players short on match-practice due to holidays or participating in short games recently getting overs under their belts, time at the crease and fielding into their legs. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 5 wickets

Stoke’s second string consolidated their second place in the table with an efficient bowling & fielding performance and a generally trouble-free run chase. Read more

Stoke and Claygate played out their annual T20 match in glorious early & late evening sunshine at the Claygate Rec.

Pre-match negotiations led to Stoke batting first, (in accordance with the laws of the game to constitute a match there was a toss, and avid followers of our site can assume who lost it), and Adrian Taylor and Dom Morley took strike. Read more

Merrow won by 5 wickets

Stoke’s erratic form continued as they slipped to a five wicket defeat at home to Merrow.

The visitors chose to field on winning the toss, appearing to be a bowler or two short of their normal compliment perhaps influencing the decision; but there was instant reward when Nick Lo was leg before to Hall to the second ball of the match. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon won by 13 runs
(Old Hamptonians set revised target of 59 in 20 overs)

Stoke D’Abernon’s 1st XI have completed near on three seasons in the Surrey Championship, but it will be many years before a result like this will ever be repeated, if ever. Read more

Academy lose semi-final but push Wimbledon all the way

Wimbledon won by 5 wickets

More semi-final agony for Stoke’s Academy as they suffered a fourth defeat in as many attempts in just five seasons of participation in the Surrey Trust League. However they pushed a well-drilled Wimbledon all the way with a committed bowling and fielding display after posting a sub-par total. Read more

Heroic Bondy steers 2s to win at Chipstead

Chipstead Coulsdon & Walcountians 2nd XI 150 all out (45.2 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 151 for 8 (43.1 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 2 wickets

Despite dominating the first quarter of the match and dismissing Chipstead for 150, Stoke’s 2s were indebted to No.9 Alex Bond, who steered us to an important win by 2 wickets. Now, only a bizarre sequence of results will prevent us playing Division 4 cricket in 2012. Read more
