Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final. Stoke began their post-League friendly programme with an impressive victory over Sheen Park at the Rec.

The sun was out as the captains tossed up and the weather stayed nice throughout the day despite a forecast to the contrary. Visiting captain Nazir called incorrectly and James Trower decided that Stoke would bat first on a good pitch. Read more

Battersea Ironsides won by 59 runs

Stoke’s 1st XI ended their 2015 league campaign with a home defeat to Battersea Ironsides and dropped to fifth place in the table, (from their starting position of third), due to results elsewhere. Read more

Stokers on the Outfield at the Oval Test

An incredibly fortunate group of young Stokers had the time of their lives last Friday, not only attending the final Test Match but also getting to play at the Oval in front of a 23500 sell out Ashes crowd, a memory they will all cherish.

Courtesy of Stoke D’Abernon CC and the Surrey Cricket Foundation ten colts ranging from U7 up to U11 received match tickets in the family stand and participated in a Kwik Cricket demonstration on the outfield during the lunch interval. Read more

Stoke continued to support the Claygate Cricket Week but fluffed their lines with the bat and fell to a one-wicket defeat despite a decent performance with the ball. Read more

Academy lose but push Spencer all the way

Despite pushing Spencer to the end, a two-wicket defeat leaves Stoke’s Academy relying on other results elsewhere, (and winning their remaining games themselves), to progress to the later stages of this year’s competition. Read more

Stokers at The Oval on Friday 15th

Friday 15th May saw a big Stoke representation at the Oval for the T20 match against Glamorgan.

A number of familiar faces made the trip to see 455 runs.

Three half centuries and two century partnerships help set up a good win for Stoke at Master Park.

Overnight rain was certain to make batting conditions tricky early on, but a Stoke side containing more 1st XI players than the opposition, whose 1s were away on a training camp, batted first. Read more
