AGM Headlines – New President, New League Captains

Sunday 27th February 2011 saw a well attended Annual General meeting at HQ.

Thanks to those who attended given the that it was half-term week and the India v England World Cup match was on at the same time.

Further to our earlier news item, Philip Jansen was confirmed as our new President. Philip spoke to the assembled audience, and spent much time after the meeting speaking individually to those who stayed behind. Welcome on board, Philip – you couldn’t wish to be associated with a better club! Read more

Trust League Draw

Monday 15th November saw the 44 member clubs in the Surrey Trust League meet at Ashtead CC for the League’s AGM and zonal group draw for the 2011 season. 32 of the clubs, (including Stoke who were number 23 in the main draw – Jordan, Beckham…Warne???), the other twelve entering the development league with twelve clubs who participate in both competitiions. Awards Night Review

A good attendance at HQ last Saturday for the Annual Awards, despite the weather and other commitments, eg. overseas cricket commitments, university, dinners, holidays…

Fresh from celebrating their Championship at the Brit Oval the previous evening, the 2nd XI carried on and MC Drew Patrick made another formal presentation of the shield to 2nd XI captain Matt Gottschalk. Whilst on his feet, Matt was also given back the Australia Cup for the best overall contribution to the 2nd XI, having won the player’s vote last year as well. Read more

Stoke D’Abernon, (9 points), beat Godalming, (0 points), by 10 runs

Just one place separated the sides in the table before the start of play, and the excellent contest that wasn’t decided until the final over was reflective of how well the sides, both missing first choice players, were matched. Stoke’s marginally better strength in depth on the day proved decisive in a tremendous advertisement for the division and the spirit of cricket. Read more
