One of many memories from the 2015 Cricket World Cup was Brendon McCullum’s attacking field placements.

This approach seemed to rub off on Chessington’s 2nd XI skipper in June when Richie took guard to this field.

Stoke’s Big Bird gutsed it out in a last wicket stand of 36 with Steve Wade to give us something to bowl at. In the end our side, (patched up due to exams and other commitments), lost comfortably, but we would score a great win in the return fixture to end the League season. Read more

Alistair Cook and Alex Hales aside, centuries have been at a premium for England this winter. The Stokers fared much better in 2015 with six additions to our 100s board:

154 – Will Gudgeon v Churt (H) on the 8th August
120 – Jack Raimondo v Old Rutlishians (H) on the 2nd May
107 (Retired) – James Trower v Sheen Park (H) on the 12th September
103 (Retired) – James Trower v Sutton (A) on the 19th April
102 – Ian Hopton v Dulwich (H) on the 16th August
100 – Malcolm Dickson v Woodmansterne (A) on the 1st August Read more

Sadly we said goodbye to Greg Routley in June who returned to his native Australia.

The king of the six-hitters in 2014, Greg managed a few more before playing his last game for us at Godalming in mid-June.

Greg was introduced to the club by another of Stoke’s sturdy oaks, Mike Carty, and they got a rare chance to bat together…in a 1st XI match at Churt in a week where exams and school speech days savaged or availability leading to more than half the team being made up of players who played more 2nd XI cricket than 1st XI cricket in 2015…yet we still won!
