Shoaib Bashir v Stoke (4 matches)

With speculation growing about a possible Test debut for Shoaib Bashir; let’s take a look at how he fared in the four matches that he played against Stoke for Guildford in the Surrey Championship between 2020 and 2022.

He first faced us in the short Covid season of 2020; the first fixture we played in our successful Surrey Championship Challenge Cup campaign, (https://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/division/92480); returning tidy figures of 8-0-27-0 at The Rec, but not enough to stop Stoke winning by 33 runs as we piled up 243 for 6 in 40 overs and then caused the a collapse to 210 all out. Sunday – Three matches and much fun

A busy day at a sun-drenched Rec that saw three matches and the till ringing with bucket hat and other sales, competitions and raffles.

After a colts’ 50-ball match in the morning, there were two other games for people to watch whilst the day, set up to help raise funds towards the nets, was in full swing. Read more

A day that started with cautious optimism where winning the remaining games could result in one or more promotions ended up being a bit of a damp squib as all three league sides fell to defeat, and whilst mathematically things are still on for all prospects now look unlikely on all three fronts. In a match bearing remarkable similarities to the fixture between the two sides in 2019, (https://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/results/3754192), Stoke did the necessary in the field with Nick Scott leading the way with his first League five wicket haul; Will Frost taking 3 for 41; and Roddy Kelso and Ben Choy taking a wicket each. Ian Hopton bowled economical overs and took two catches, Frost Jnr held one off how own bowling and Tom Frost added a catching and a stumping to his Club record dismissals count. Read more

For the second week running Stoke were involved in a 1st v 2nd match up. They didn’t accrue a massive points total for their efforts but stayed in the top two places by securing a draw. Read more

Stoke fought back to secure a winning draw after being in a several precarious positions having chosen to bat on winning the toss. 11 for 3, 56 for 6 – Tristan Caviet having dug in for 34 of those at the point of his dismissal – and then 118 for 8. Read more
