The 100

Over 40s beat Leatherhead in Inaugural 100 ball match

Wednesday 29th August 2018
Friendly
Leatherhead Over 40s 77 for 8 (100 balls)
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s 78 for 2 (70 balls)
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s won by 8 wickets

The ECB may be trialling the 100 ball game soon, (http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/24461064/pca-confirms-involvement-trials-ecb-100-ball-competition), but Stoke’s and Leatherhead’s Over 40s got in first and played out a highly sociable game despite the time of year suggesting miners’ helmets might be needed. To avoid this prospect the sides were creative by bowling the first 48 balls from one end, then the remainder – including the ten ball final over – from the other.

Over 40s v Weybridge June 2018

Overs 40s beat Leatherhead

Thursday 19th July 2018
Friendly
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s 176 for 3 (20 overs)
Leatherhead Over 40s 96 for 6 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s won by 80 runs

Leatherhead were the latest to put together an Over 40s side as this highly successful initiative started by Stoke and Weybridge a couple of years ago continues to grow. Don’t read the scorecard as a one-sided affair. Everyone was involved and Stoke ran out winners against a newly formed team who, with games, will reduce the targets they will have to chase and put more on their own total.

Over 40s beat Weybridge on Last Ball with 27 off the Final Over

Thursday 14th June 2018
Friendly
Weybridge Over 40s 176 for 6 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s 180 for 4 (20 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon Over 40s won by 6 wickets

What is it about T20 matches at Stoke this year? With the boffins at CricInfo looking into our seemingly unique Surrey Championship T20 win against Horsley & Send in May, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2018/05/25/t20-win-over-horsley-send-on-cricinfos-radar/), they’ll be at it again to see if a side has ever won a match with three sixes off the last three balls…and before you ask, remember that Ben Stokes wasn’t hit for all those sixes off the last four balls of that World T20 Final…and he had 19 runs to play with. Stoke needed 24 off the last over of this one.

Over 40s In Pre-Season

For years Stoke has offered cricket for everyone; 1s, 2s, 3s, Sunday XI, age group from U7-U17, Surrey Trust League, Under 19 T20 Blast, Friendly T20 & Long-Format, Women & Girls T20 & Long-Format to name just a few.

In 2016 an Over 40s squad was assembled for the first time. Affectionately known as “Dads & Pads” and made up mainly of colts’ parents, (but anyone over the age of 40 is welcome to join in and having children is not a pre-requisite!), the team defeated the mighty Weybridge in their inaugural match last May.

Tarrant Hat-Trick but Stoke positivity goes unrewarded

Saturday 16th July 2016
Travelbag Surrey Championship – Division 5
Stoke D’Abernon 260 for 7 declared (49.5 overs)
Old Emanuel 263 for 6 (42.2 overs)
Old Emanuel won by 4 wickets

Stoke didn’t do a lot wrong in this one but there was a lot of head-scratching after a solid batting performance and a positive declaration went unrewarded. Some days you just have to say well played to the opposition.
