Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final. Sadly we said goodbye to Greg Routley in June who returned to his native Australia.

The king of the six-hitters in 2014, Greg managed a few more before playing his last game for us at Godalming in mid-June.

Greg was introduced to the club by another of Stoke’s sturdy oaks, Mike Carty, and they got a rare chance to bat together…in a 1st XI match at Churt in a week where exams and school speech days savaged or availability leading to more than half the team being made up of players who played more 2nd XI cricket than 1st XI cricket in 2015…yet we still won! Churt 232 for 9 declared (50.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 233 for 8 (49 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 2 wickets

A much-changed Stoke 1st XI missing a number of regular players registered their third victory in a row with a successful run chase at a picturesque Churt Cricket Ground. The game was a tremendous advert for Championship cricket as all results were possible going into the closing overs. Read more

Shortage of runs and food at Guildford City for the 2s

Saturday 23rd May 2015
Surrey Championship Division 4 – 2nd XI Competition
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 124 all out (38.2 overs)
Guildford City 125 for 5 (29.3 overs)
Guildford City 2nd XI won by 5 wickets

Stoke’s 2nd XI surrendered their 100% league record at Burpham after a succession of single figure scores in the top order left the lower order and tail too much to do to post a defendable total. Read more

Stokers at The Oval on Friday 15th

Friday 15th May saw a big Stoke representation at the Oval for the T20 match against Glamorgan.

A number of familiar faces made the trip to see 455 runs.
