Stoke 151*

Ahead of the big reunion on the 22nd August 2021 to celebrate our 151 years of existence, a few have taken time to reply to their invites. Here is a flavour of the replies:

Ian Lipscombe : “I have been keeping an eye on the club’s progress up the divisions and everyone is to be congratulated about what has been achieved from such humble beginnings.” Read more

Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final. Bondy bags four but 2s lose to the Champions

Surrey Championship Division 4 – 2nd XI competition
Woking & Horsell 210 for 9 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 139 all out (36.4 overs)
Woking & Horsell won by 71 runs

For only the 2nd time since 2004 Stoke 2s went into the final day of the season with nothing to play for, safe in the knowledge that whatever the outcome of the match we would still be in Division 4 next season. Our hosts for this game, however, still needed to win to secure the Division 4 title. Read more

2nd XI beaten by promotion chasing Sinjungrammarians

Surrey Championship Division 4 – 2nd XI competition
Sinjungrammarians 334 all out (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 229 all out (48.1 overs)
Sinjungrammarians won by 95 runs

Stoke 2s had a disappointing day at home against promotion chasing Sinjungrammarians, playing all the way through the rain into the bright sunshine that followed. None of  the Stoke players bowled or fielded with distinction, however there were  four wickets for captain John Crisp, some good catches, a run out which should be credited to both Andy Page and Alex Bond, and a sharp stumping by Malcolm Dickson. Heroic Bondy steers 2s to win at Chipstead

Surrey Championship Division 4 – 2nd XI Competition

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 151 for 8 (43.1 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI won by 2 wickets

Despite dominating the first quarter of the match and dismissing Chipstead for 150, Stoke’s 2s were indebted to No.9 Alex Bond, who steered us to an important win by 2 wickets. Now, only a bizarre sequence of results will prevent us playing Division 4 cricket in 2012. Read more

Gav and Jonny shared a club record partnership of 144 – the highest 3rd wicket stand in the history of 2nd XI cricket at Stoke. What was most impressive about the stand was that it only encompassed 16 overs and put us totally in control of our run chase. Read more
