There is more to any game of cricket than simply turning up and playing on the day. Stoke’s success in recent seasons has been built on a team of passionate volunteers and sponsors; and Bank Holiday Monday saw a 30 over match played to recognise their efforts and raise important club funds.

Stoke sent a Development XI to a soggy Effingham and played out a draw against a more experienced home side. The match started late to allow for some drying time to the wet outfield.

Stoke’s Sunday XI lost a thriller at the Rec with all results possible on the final ball.
The visitors chose to bat and registered a total of 207 for 6 from their 40 overs. Brothers Richie and Robbie Parrett appeared in a Stoke side together for the first time since July 2009, and each took two wickets; Richie taking bragging rights with 2 for 33 versus 2 for 45 in their allotted eight over spells. There was a wicket each for Adam Cooke and Rod Thomson. Gregory top scored with 70.

Badgers won by 4 wickets
Mike Carty clubbed 52 and promising young bowlers Dom Lloyd and Alex Bond shared five wickets, but Stoke’s Sunday XI were defeated by the Badgers at the Rec for whom Jake Gordon, (4-41), and Mark Gordon, (57), starred for the visitors.
Clubmark Certificate presentation by Alec Stewart
Alec Stewart was the guest of honour at Stoke D’Abernon Cricket Club on Friday 23rd April at an evening event which was attended by more than 60 members. The occasion marked the formal presentation of Stoke’s Clubmark certificate by Alec to Stoke’s Chairman, Drew Patrick, and members were given the opportunity to hear about the ambitious development plans for the club.
