A short day for both League sides; the 1st XI consolidating their position in the promotion places, the 2nd XI doing the necessary and with the three results elsewhere needed to go our way going our way, promotion is back in our own hands again.

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 127 all out (51.3 overs)
Alleyn 2nd XI won by 7 runs

Stoke’s 2nd XI missed the chance to go back into the promotion places when two bunches of wickets in the batting effort undid an excellent performance in the field with a wet ball.

Cheam 2nd XI won by 127 runs

Stoke’s 2nd XI were missing a few of their first choice team and fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Cheam who now have three wins in a row after losing their first four games.

Back to back wins for Stoke’s 2nd XI with this 20-point haul, but they made harder work of this one than they should have, although Merstham contributed a lot to this match.

Stoke’s 2nd XI recorded their first win of the season at the third attempt with a five wicket victory over Alleyn, moving above them in the table in the process.

Stoke’s second string were left to rue this one that got away as Kingstonian chased down their total with one wicket and seven balls to spare despite having been 106 for 7 at one point.

Stoke successfully defended a moderate total to record their first victory of the season.

Batting first having won the toss, there was an early wicket when Alistair McMillan edged B.Grindell to the keeper; but Jack Raimondo and James Trower added 57 runs in 8.3 overs to get the board moving. They were separated when Raimondo, (23 from 26), was caught & bowled by first change Williams attempting to turn a low full toss into the mid-wicket area.

The fixture computer had a laugh at our expense, sending us to the furthest away ground for a 12 noon start, but on arrival the clubs played out three-quarters of a game to finish the League season; Stoke eventually winning on run-rate in a match that had similar duration to the 1st XI match.

Last Week to get into the hat for the Dubai Trip

Toby Tarrant, Duncan Elder, James Whitmarsh and Ian Hopton were already in the hat going into last weekend’s League matches. On Saturday Adrian Mills and Adam De Swardt qualified too.

One round of League fixtures to go this coming weekend for players to get the required number of runs, wickets or catches to get into the draw for one of the five night Dubai holiday packages.
