Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 112 all out (34.4 overs)
Cheam 2nd XI won by 127 runs

Stoke’s 2nd XI were missing a few of their first choice team and fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Cheam who now have three wins in a row after losing their first four games.

Stoke’s 2nd XI scored a sensational win at Ewell having been second favourites for at least 3 quarters of the afternoon.

Stoke successfully defended a moderate total to record their first victory of the season.

Batting first having won the toss, there was an early wicket when Alistair McMillan edged B.Grindell to the keeper; but Jack Raimondo and James Trower added 57 runs in 8.3 overs to get the board moving. They were separated when Raimondo, (23 from 26), was caught & bowled by first change Williams attempting to turn a low full toss into the mid-wicket area.

Between them they took a total of 17 catches, (Carel led the way with 6), 1 stumping, (Tom Frost), and 62 byes.

League Dinner

Yesterday evening Stokers were out in force at The Oval for the 49th Surrey Championship Annual Dinner.

Sat at one table, (pictured), were Toby Tarrant, (who doubled up as our other table’s wine waiter for part of the evening – see below), Will Frost, Dan Gluckman, Charlie Hill, James Trower, James Whitmarsh, Jack Raimondo and Will Gudgeon. Will also brought along a newbie for next year in the form of his mate Kane. It was great to see Billy Newman there too who we hope to see back on the field next season.

In contrast to the previous day, the Stoke Rec was bathed in sunshine as Stoke opened early for business with the visit of the Surrey Championship Grounds & Facilities Committee to, (hopefully), ratify the 1st XI’s promotion to Division 4.
