My Greatest XI : Dom Morley

The next Stoker to put forward his squad and greatest final XI is Dom Morley, who has written to us from his placement in the States…

Had a bit of time on my hands out here in Montana so thought I’d chip in to the best XI that I’ve played with debate, although mine is a very modern team: Read more

Messages of Congrats from Ian Wellman, Medders and Others

The Club has received this e-mail from Ian Wellman, (for those who don’t know he was our leading run scorer until a couple of years ago and his late father Derek founded our colts section):

“Just want to add my own personal congratulations to those from other former players of the Club who have all been, I am sure, again watching the Club’s progress again this season. Read more

Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final. …but of more interest to Stokers comes this news from Danny D Snr who contacted SDCC to say : “The shirt Dan is wearing under the MCC jumper is his long-sleeved Stoke shirt. Any game Dan plays in, he wears that shirt. It was very kindly mentioned Dan was the pick of the bowlers – it must be his lucky Stoke shirt!” Read more

Hoppy Hundred as Academy finish on a high

Sunday 16th August 2015
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 278 for 7 (40 overs)
Dulwich 187 for 8 (40 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 91 runs

A dead rubber as regards qualification for either side, but players still had records to put on the line, (and for Stoke the wooden spoon to avoid), and they put on a good show at the Rec. Read more

Academy lose but push Spencer all the way

Sunday 19th July 2015
Surrey Trust League
Stoke D’Abernon 136 all out (28.3 overs)
Spencer 138 for 8 (22.2 overs)
Spencer won by 2 wickets

Despite pushing Spencer to the end, a two-wicket defeat leaves Stoke’s Academy relying on other results elsewhere, (and winning their remaining games themselves), to progress to the later stages of this year’s competition. Read more
