Last week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at people who opened the batting and the bowling in the same ODI. The question and the answer was:
Q : Mehidy Hasan opened the batting and bowling for Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final. How many times has this happened? Read more
Congrats to one of our favourite sons and Stoke Academy product Dan Douthwaite who helped Warwickshire to a win over West Indies A on Sunday.
Making his List A debut, Dan made 38 from 24 at the end of Warwickshire’s innings; then returned figures of 10-1-43-3; the three wickets being Test & ODI player Jason Blackwood, ODI capped Rovman Powell and experienced First Class player Rakheem Cornwall. Read more

So we reach the final part of the series. Here is Ralphie’s Top Ten…
OK, here we go…but before you read on, a bit of background as to why I chose these. When initially sorting the pieces of paper on the lounge floor, (seems ages ago, now), I kept coming back to these more than any, as they were brilliant hundreds in both their execution and importance to the match situation. All bar two had a direct influence on a positive result, (I had also been at the non-striker’s end for a short period of two of them so I am claiming an assist!); and where the hundreds were match-winning efforts they were clearly more memorable, and part of some crazy games to win given the events of the day; in some cases we met an opposition who were not as spirited as us and that made the win even more satisfying. Tim Handel : 129 v Ewhurst (A) on 07/07/2007 – 1st XI – Fuller’s League
Scorecard : http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/results/891497
We had been waiting for this. In his first season with us, Tim had threatened a ton on a few occasions without converting, but this was the day it happened. Decent attack but a small playing area, and in early after we lost Gav in the first over. Sid & Tim traded boundary after boundary in a Club record Fuller’s 2nd wicket partnership, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/record-partnerships/) – Sid eventually holed out, (probably with his bowling duties in mind), but Tim went on and on. We were contemplating 300 but Simon pitched a six on the road that bounced several times on the tarmac and took about ten minutes to fetch. Not wanting to lose time or overs, we ‘suggested’ to Pagie that we declared and we won the game to stay in promotion contention.
Yesterday the 2017 domestic season kicked off, (on British soil – the thrilling Champion County match was already in progress), and some players who have faced Stoke in the past were in action:

The next Stoker to put forward his squad and greatest final XI is Dom Morley, who has written to us from his placement in the States…
Had a bit of time on my hands out here in Montana so thought I’d chip in to the best XI that I’ve played with debate, although mine is a very modern team: Read more
