Ben Foakes made a century in his first Test innings last week, and this fitted in nicely with some other analysis we were doing after CricInfo were asked to look at one or two things by their followers.
Four Stokers have made a century on their debut, (in Claire Trafford’s case she arrived on the scene with a score of 213 not out!), and many others have got to three figures in pretty quick time. Read more

A rare – but not unique – piece of history in the first test between Pakistan and Australia recently where the Marsh brothers were both dismissed for a duck in the same innings. Andrew Samson at Test Match Special, and soon after Steven Lynch at CricInfo, looked into how many times this has happened, and there were only seven previous instances: Read more
Last week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at people who opened the batting and the bowling in the same ODI. The question and the answer was:

This week’s Ask Steven column on CricInfo looked at one of the poorer sides of Virat Kohli’s game. The question and the answer was:
Q : Does Virat Kohli have the worst average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs in ODIs?
A : Virat Kohli has so far taken four wickets in one-day internationals, for an average of 166.25. That is indeed the highest average for anyone who has bowled more than 100 overs. The latest article about losing wickets after being 100+ for 0 has prompted a bit of interest and banter. Tim McConnell, (Stoker from 2001 to 2003 who says he will try and get a game in for us next time he is in the UK – http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/808642?rule_type_id=179), contacted us from his native New Zealand and spotted himself on the Century Partnerships board with Andrew Hall who also joined the conversation. Will Thomson also dialled in from the Far East, and one or two more local to Stoke have already read and shared it. Read more
