League Dinner

Yesterday evening Stokers were out in force at The Oval for the 49th Surrey Championship Annual Dinner.

Sat at one table, (pictured), were Toby Tarrant, (who doubled up as our other table’s wine waiter for part of the evening – see below), Will Frost, Dan Gluckman, Charlie Hill, James Trower, James Whitmarsh, Jack Raimondo and Will Gudgeon. Will also brought along a newbie for next year in the form of his mate Kane. It was great to see Billy Newman there too who we hope to see back on the field next season. Read more

Surrey Championship T20 Entry Confirmed

Part of the League Rep’s job is to make sure we’re entered for the Surrey Championship T20 competition. Surrey are one of the participating counties in this national tournament that, if the county winners are successful, they go into the regional rounds leading to a possible finals day at a First Class County Ground televised on Sky Sports. Last year our friends and neighbours from Ashtead made it to the final; John Vaughan-Davies, (Stoke groundsman who has also played the odd game for us to show us how well our square plays!), scooped the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final. 2nd XI fall just short in big run chase at Ripley

Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 282 for 8 (50 overs)
Ripley 2nd XI won by 32 runs

Stoke’s 2nd XI registered their highest score of the season in a gallant run chase that ended 32 runs short on a belter of a pitch at Ripley. Read more

A much-changed Stoke 1st XI missing a number of regular players registered their third victory in a row with a successful run chase at a picturesque Churt Cricket Ground. The game was a tremendous advert for Championship cricket as all results were possible going into the closing overs. Read more

Stoke’s 2nd XI surrendered their 100% league record at Burpham after a succession of single figure scores in the top order left the lower order and tail too much to do to post a defendable total. Read more

1st XI end League Season on a high with a win over Dorking

Dorking 123 all out (31 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 124 for 4 (31.4 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon won by 6 wickets

Stoke’s 1st XI ended their season on a high against Dorking who came into the match leading the division and needing a win to clinch the title. By the time stumps were drawn, a much-changed Stoke team, including debutant Baz Medlycott and others who started the week in the original 2nd XI selection, registered a six wicket win allowing Byfleet to win the title with a victory over Old Pauline.
