Anthony to Bat this Evening – Watch Live

Those not following the West indies domestic competition due to the India v England and other series commanding more media coverage may not be aware that the latest round of matches is now in progress.

Former Stoker Anthony Alleyne is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition, (http://www.windiescricket.com/news/alleyne-cornwall-are-top-r4d-performers & http://stats.espncricinfo.com/wicb-regional-4-day-2016-17/engine/records/batting/most_runs_career.html?id=11594;type=tournament), and after his Barbados side bowled out Guyana to end the first day, (42 year old Shiv Chanderpaul still going strong and notching another ton – his son is in the same team), he will take strike on Day 2. Good week for the Pros

Another good week for those with Stoke connections who are now in the professional game.

Nat Sciver – http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/252289?rule_type_id=179
Last week Nat rescued England from a precarious positon with 77 in England’s final WODI in Sri Lanka, lifting England from 58 for 6 with a century stand that formed part of a final total of 240. After rain finished things for the first day she then took two wickets as England won comfortably on the reserve day. Read more

Anthony Hits 84

Further to Sunday’s post, Anthony didn’t let down those of us who tuned in to watch!

He top-scored in Barbados’ second innings with 84; for a while putting them in a position to complete and unlikely run-chase, the Barbados Pride, (as they have been branded), having been set an ‘Alastair Cook-esque’ target by the captain of the Windward Islands Hurricanes. Read more

Surrey Championship Season Review

2nd XI Promoted as Champions and the 1st XI finishing in their highest ever league position were just two of many highlights from our 2010 Surrey Championship campaign. The following report, and the picture at the foot of this article, have been submitted to the League for inclusion in the 2011 Surrey Championship Handbook: Read more

1st XI record highest ever finish despite last day defeat at Dorking

Surrey Championship Division 5

Dorking 206 for 9 (50 overs)

Stoke D’Abernon 99 all out (30.1 overs)

Dorking, (10 points), beat Stoke D’Abernon, (0 points), by 107 runs

Both sides went into this match needing to win and rely on results elsewhere to move up the table and it was Dorking who did everything they could do for themselves as they won by 107 runs to save themselves from relegation. Stoke’s disappointing defeat in the end was academic as Farncombe got the required victory to clinch the second promotion spot. Read more

1st XI edge out Godalming

Surrey Championship Division 5

Stoke D’Abernon 198 all out (48.5 overs)

Godalming 188 all out (49.5 overs)

Stoke D’Abernon, (9 points), beat Godalming, (0 points), by 10 runs

Just one place separated the sides in the table before the start of play, and the excellent contest that wasn’t decided until the final over was reflective of how well the sides, both missing first choice players, were matched. Stoke’s marginally better strength in depth on the day proved decisive in a tremendous advertisement for the division and the spirit of cricket. Read more
