We were delighted to receive an invite from Frimley to continue our season, and they extended their hospitality so much that they offered to field first, their plan to give as many players a bowl as it was their last home match of the season.

Stoke D’Abernon 3rd XI won by 103 runs
Rock bottom hosted already promoted in a game where neither side could improve their League position; but Stoke’s 3rd XI ended a highly successful campaign with a big win.

This match saw Rod Thomson’s playing days at Stoke come to an end, and he would end with the wicket to close out victory against Maori Oxshott who were not only kind enough to come to us to play having advertised for a home game themselves, but they would also provide a guard of honour and invite us to bat despite winning the toss on a warm afternoon.

A clinical performance at Parkside took the 3rd XI to what they thought would be one win away from a second successive promotion, but results elsewhere called for the champagne a week early.

Two in-form sides duelled in sun, and it was Stoke who emerged victorious after a great effort in the field was backed up by a nicely-paced run chase.

Back in 1985 the acting Stoke skipper for this one was sat at Chelmsford watching Essex chase down an above par total against Yorkshire to win the John Player League. Despite having Gooch and co in their line up Keith Fletcher decided to hold back a frontline batsmen until late in the chase to provide the necessary oomph to ensure silverware. For info that player was none other than Paul Prichard who had a season at Stoke in 2011.

Games at Wraysbury are always enjoyable and this one was no exception, Stoke’s Sunday XI giving a good account of themselves having played for a few weeks and having no recognised keeper.
A bad day at the office for Stoke’s League sides as all three matches were lost.
