Sunday Round Up – President’s XI win big. Sunday XI lose but have fun at Oxted

Sunday 7th July 2019
With a number of players who wouldn’t normally commit to a Sunday supporting the President’s Day match, to avoid disappointing others who wouldn’t have otherwise got a game, again we raised two sides with another XI going to Oxted & Limpsfield. Contrasting fortunes for the teams but many positives. Read more

Sunday Cricket : Two Wins. One run feast, one feast of insanity

Sunday 30th June 2019
Famine to feast again on the availability front and we had numbers to play two Sunday fixtures this weekend, thus avoiding the difficult decision of having to tell a handful of people that they had no game. Plans were hastily changed when the original opposition called an hour after the second fixture was booked to say they couldn’t raise a side; but we found a replacement opposition well known to us selected the sides accordingly. A big and morale boosting win for Stoke’s Sunday XI as the batting line up, boosted by a bit of senior assistance from Jase Earl, racked up a formidable total; then a bowling attack that could easily have gone out together in the previous day’s League fixture were any of them available did a great job as a unit. An uncharacteristic performance by Stoke’s Sunday XI saw them crash to a nine wicket defeat to new opponents Odney who enquired about a fixture last weekend but were just too late. Kohli v Stoke (2) : Consecutive 20+ Scores

India drew first blood in the Test Series this week despite a moderate contribution from Virat Kohli. However Virat added another impressive stat to his CV recently in the ODI series against the West Indies where, having made 157 not out, he made an eighteenth successive score of 20 or more in ODIs, (passing Matthew Hayden’s run of 17 20+ scores in 2007.) He then extended his run to nineteen with 107 in the next match before finally falling for 16 in Mumbai. Twelve of Virat’s knocks were also over 50, (8×100, 4×50.) Read more

Centuries on Debut / Time Taken to Make First Hundred

Ben Foakes made a century in his first Test innings last week, and this fitted in nicely with some other analysis we were doing after CricInfo were asked to look at one or two things by their followers.

Four Stokers have made a century on their debut, (in Claire Trafford’s case she arrived on the scene with a score of 213 not out!), and many others have got to three figures in pretty quick time. Read more
