Academy win at Farncombe to keep Qualification hopes alive

Stoke’s Academy chased down Farncombe’s total of 180 to do all they could for themselves towards qualification for one of the semi-final competitions. They were reliant on two other results going their way at the weekend – both did! – so a win at Reigate Priory on Sunday week could be enough. (See later on.) Read more

More good availability meant another 3rd XI fixture could be played; and Caterham kindly selected us as the opposition for their 2nd XI who had a League bye-week. This gave the hybrid of emerging Stoke players and a few older heads to get time in the middle, and there was another positive result. Read more

Having continued the Stoke tradition of losing the toss, Stoke were asked to bat.

Wilkinson opened the bowling for Churchleigh and was the pick of the bowlers, Phillips took the new ball with Wilkinson and Stephen Anderson found this bowling to his liking and forced a change, only to find the the spin of the captain Jon Woolgar equally inviting, clubbing a career best 63 from 36 balls, (his maiden half-century for Stoke.) An uncharismatic end of term performance from Stoke was exploited to the full by friends from Sheen Park who were keen to continue their winning run after securing promotion from their league the previous week. Read more

Not for the first time this season, Stoke’s second string were left to rue a shortage of runs and fell to a 68 run defeat at the hands of title chasing Maori Oxshott. Read more

At 10pm on Friday night Stoke’s 2nd XI were fixtureless after Alleyn & Honor Oak’s concession.

A late call in response to an advert placed by Marble Hill CC, a complete unknown quantity whose only ‘League’ cricket is played in the Last Man Stands T20 Competition, (click here for a link to the site, playing conditions and stats – http://www.lastmanstands.com), was well received by an enthusiastic opposition captain, grateful for the chance of a game after having his original fixture called off, then his replacement opposition also not being able to raise a side.
