Firstly some thank-yous in light of some late call-ups to the Trust League. To Jase Earl, Duncan Elder and Danny Broomfield for making themselves available late in the day to ensure we had a full XI, Danny in particular subbing in for original selection Alfie B! Jo P still provided a sandwich service, and the players themselves hastily added provisions to bulk up the tea. Read more

A century for Jase Earl at the Rec as Stoke avenged their mid-week T20 defeat.

Stoke batted first on the same pitch used by the 2nd XI the previous day; Nico Spreeth and Alistair McMillan had to use all their skill and be wary of the low bounce. Consequently runs were hard to come by early doors. Spreeth survived a chance on the circle, but didn’t have the patience of his partner and departed in a similar fashion in the eighth over. Hampton Hill made a welcome return to the Stoke Rec after a number of years of being off the card, we speculated that it was the lengthening of the League programme in the mid-1990s that meant something had to give. (One of the opposition remembered the old changing rooms being behind the bowler’s arm at the Blundell Lane end the last time he played here, and was unaware of the current clubhouse being where it is today!)
