Both teams were billing this as an important game being the last of the declaration games this season when 13 points are on offer, but both had to settle for a draw after a hot and hard fought contest.

On Saturday and Sunday – on the same strip – a Stoke XI won by one wicket, registering a total of 113 for 9 in response to a visiting team’s total of 112 all out. Even more spookily, Stoke faced 31.2 overs on both days!

With the division as tight as it is this year, this was the sort of game that is very important to win and today Stoke 2s put in the sort of performance that had previously earned us our place in this division. After struggling with the bat again we bowled and fielded brilliantly, (and refused to give up), to win a game we had no right to win at tea.

Many positives but ultimate frustration as Stoke D’Abernon’s 1st XI weren’t quite able to force a win against Chertsey who started the day in one of the promotion places.

Stoke D’Abernon fell from a promotion place to mid-table after defeat to well drilled and better prepared Old Hamptonians side who fully justified their top of the table position.

A strong all-round team performance saw Stoke’s T20 side through to the third round of the Surrey Championship T20 competition at the expense of a Godalming side that included eight of the XI that defeated Stoke in the 50-over Division 5 clash less than two weeks ago.

Sutton won the toss and decided to bat first in overcast conditions. With the lethal combination of Dom Lloyd and Alex Bond to open the bowling runs were expected to be restricted especially with a combination of youth, enthusiasm and experience throughout the field. What was to come was unexpected to say the least. Sutton got off the mark in the 4th over and struggled to keep the run rate above two.

Stoke D’Abernon’s 1st XI bounced back from last week’s hiccup at Godalming with a comprehensive derby win against Maori Oxshott who came to the Stoke Rec defending an unbeaten record.
