St.Andrews Church was packed yesterday as a huge number turned out to pay their respects to Alan.
A formidable line-up of current and former Stoke players with a combined 60839 runs and 6511 wickets between them, plus former Club President David Pappin, took up a corner of the church but formed a low percentage of the attendees, such was the turnout.
With thoughts turning to Alan’s funeral tomorrow, one of many things he did for the membership – before the days of the internet and other instant messaging and social media, (and the Play Cricket network) – was to produce “Cover Point” – a periodic newsletter that was posted to all members.
Alan’s funeral will be held on Friday 4th March 2016 at 2pm at St.Andrew’s Church, Cobham.

We were very saddened to learn that Stoke legend Alan Wiseman, passed away at the weekend.
Within hours of the new breaking Stokers in the UK and around the world have sent in their tributes:
Chris Gudgeon : “Very sad to hear of his passing. I cherish great memories…his dogs often left to roam the Rec during games…his rather unreliable Volvo cars…his thespian skills with the Cobham Players…The Folk Club. But overall my abiding thoughts are of his huge love for the Cclub…all of us heard of his dismissals being delivered by future Test players…caused by giraffes but Alan was a great competitor. He also served the club as Chairman…and was always around…Committee meetings it is fair to say we’re amusingly chaotic…but full of good memories. Will miss you Alan…puff away on that pipe in the clubhouse in the sky.”
Stoke Life Member Alan Wiseman has written to SDCC with a story about our all-time leading run-scorer…
While reading the Dorking Advertiser article on Alistair, I recalled one of his first ever innings for Stoke.
I was Captain of the Second XI at Leatherhead. I’d opened and was going at my usual very conservative rate when a clutch of wickets fell and I thought we might be in danger of throwing the game away. In walked this youngster to whom I had briefly been introduced in the changing rooms.
