AGM News (Minutes Now Available)

The recent AGM – overseen by new President Stephen Finch – was very much a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ following our excellent 2017 season, most of the roles and responsibilities for 2018 remaining unchanged. James Trower continues as Club Captain, likewise Jase Earl retains his role skippering the 2nd XI.

In his Chairman’s report, Drew referred to another excellent season at all levels in the Club, highlighted by the promotion of the 1st XI to Division 3 of the Surrey Championship under the leadership of JT, (back to back promotions in his two seasons as Club Captain), and congrats were extended to the 2nd XI for promotion to Division 3 of that ladder under the captaincy of Jase. Availability for team selection was generally very good, especially in the latter part of the season leading to talk of an expanded senior fixtures programme.

Drew reiterated the need to clear the outstanding balance of the Clubhouse Extension loan – this would include a re-launch of the Century Club – but in the same breath mentioned that hiking subs and match fees was not the way to go to achieve this and they would remain unchanged this year. Please consider what a donation from anyone reading this, whatever amount, will do to help this.

Drew also noted that the Club enjoyed its best ever seasonal income from Colts’ subs, thanking Shannon Clinton for having done an excellent job in this regard.

Treasurer Rod presented the accounts, (audited again by Ali Mac), which made good reading, albeit we suffered an overall loss, despite the outstanding loan repayments.

AGM & Clear the Beer IV

Notice from the Chairman!!!

After the success of moving the AGM to a Saturday last year, we will stay with this winning formula and hold the 2018 AGM on Saturday 24th March 2018, 6pm, followed by another ‘Clear the Beer’ promotion.

Please put this date and time into your calendars & diaries.

The AGM should take no more than 30 minutes to complete – we have to do this to comply with the Elmbridge annual licensing requirements.

See you there!

AGM Update – New Appointments

A message to the membership from Drew…

Dear Members!

Following our AGM at the weekend, (http://www.stokecc.co.uk/2017/03/12/agm-news-2/), I am delighted to confirm that we have filled the two remaining vacancies on our Committee:

Peter Phipps will replace Jo Patrick as Club Secretary. Peter is a stalwart of our 2nd XI and Sunday squad, and it will be pleasure to have him support me with the administration of the club and the maintenance of our important relationship with Elmbridge Borough Council.

Peter Phipps

Victoria Cheeseman will replace Caroline Neat as Club Welfare Officer. During the next few weeks, Caroline will transfer her current responsibilities to Victoria. Jo  will also train her in the maintenance of our Clubmark records.

In addition, Victoria’s husband, James, has kindly offered to help with the management of the Under 8s and 9s. Victoria and James have two sons, Sam and Ben. They joined the club last summer, having returned to the UK from a 2 year stint in Cape Town.

It’s always great to welcome new members and, in this instance, new members who have volunteered to help with the running of our club!

Well done also to those who registered for web-site notifications via this link on the home page:

AGM News

An increased turnout for this year’s AGM; a few watched the rugby ahead of the main event…

Clear the Beer II (1)

…and many more stopped back to have a few beers and some food afterwards.

Applying an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach following our excellent 2016 season, most of the roles and responsibilities for 2017 remain unchanged. James Trower continues as Club Captain, likewise Jase Earl retains his role skippering the 2nd XI.

This was, however, the last AGM minuted by Jo as she stands down as Club Secretary after nearly a decade in the role, (her replacement, who came forward last night, will be announced soon); but the membership will be pleased to know that Jo will still co-ordinate the Saturday teas for this coming season! Jo was also elected as a Vice President…replacing Drew(!) who retired by rotation, Adrian Mills stays on as a VP.

AGM 2017

In his Chairman’s report, Drew reiterated the need to clear the outstanding balance of the Clubhouse Extension loan, but in the same breath mentioned that hiking subs and match fees was not the way to go to achieve this and they would remain unchanged this year. Drew is also confident that a replacement for Caroline Neat as Welfare Officer will be in place and announced early next week.

New Treasurer Rod presented the accounts, (audited again by Ali Mac), which made good reading despite the outstanding loan repayments; and away from the financial side of things Rod was keen to make sure we acknowledged the contribution of Andrew Trower, who stands down as Colts & Academy Director years in the role.

Pagie announced that this year’s Pre-Season Working Party will be on Saturday 8th April, and a list of what needs to be done and timings will follow.

Any other business was brief. David Pappin asking for a reintroduction of a paper fixture card rather than relying on the on-line versions. Logie said he would produce one for David or anyone else who requested one – please e-mail your requests to stokecc@hotmail.com.

Reminders were also given to the free subscriber service where entering your e-mail address and submitting in this field on the home page on the web-site here…

An overview of EasyFundRaising was also given – pleasingly and a few signed up soon after.

So with the AGM done, mainly in order to comply with the Elmbridge annual licensing requirements(!) many stayed back to make full use of said licence and made a tidy contribution to the coffers.

Please don’t pay your annual subscriptions and match fees via the Just Giving link. HMRC have sent a general letter to all clubs nationwide saying there have been examples of clubs abusing the gift aid system to inflate match fee income or discount member subs & match fees, and have said they will withdraw CASC status for anyone they catch. We are compliant and want to remain that way.

AGM & Clear The Beer II

Notice from the Chairman!!!

We have decided to experiment by having the AGM at 6pm on a Saturday, (versus the usual time of midday on a Sunday), followed by another ‘Clear the Beer’ promotion, with Asahi discounted to £2.50 a pint.

Please put Saturday 11th March 2017 into your calendars & diaries.

The event in December yielded excellent bar sales, so we have decided to repeat the process! I will also meet with the manager of the Gurkha Kitchen next week to see if we can arrange for a curry to be served on the night, (members will be asked to pay for this.)

The AGM should take no more than 30 minutes to complete – we have to do this to comply with the Elmbridge annual licensing requirements.

See you then!

AGM News : New Club Captain

The Club’s AGM yesterday saw a decent turnout…and the usual variety of reasons for apologising for absence!

Overseen by Drew who captured a review of last year and an update on the Clubhouse extension, (we’re nearly there – we now need to pay off the ECB loan and we’re done – for that we still need your donations : https://www.justgiving.com/sdacc/donate/)

An honours board detailing those who have been very generous will be commissioned – still time to get your name on there!

On the playing side, Will Gudgeon stands down after three eventful years as 1st XI Captain; and James Trower, one of many to progress from age-group cricket through to full 1st XI honours, takes over.

We have a new Colts’ Membership Secretary in Shannon Clinton, (welcome Sharon!), and Sarah will continue to gather in senior subsciprions…that are now due!

After sixteen years as Treasurer, Mike Furze stood down from the role to concentrate his efforts on supporting the players from the boundary. His final accounts passed Alistair McMillan’s audit. Drew will assume temporary responsibility for the Treasurership until a permanent replacement is found.

After he finishes University Adrian Taylor will take over from Andy Page as League Rep, (thanks to Adrian Mills for covering off the important tasks whilst he is away); otherwise all the other roles from last year remain unchanged:

Chairman : Drew Patrick
Secretary : Jo Patrick
Facilities : Andy Page
2nd XI Captain : Jase Earl
Director of Colts : Andrew Trower
Senior Fixtures : Ralph Coleman
Women & Girls’ Cricket : Andy Berry and Andy Page

Our thanks as ever to Jo and Drew for their continued contribution.

If anyone wants to see the Minutes, Chairman’s Report, Treasurer’s Report or the Club Accounts for the year just gone, please e-mail stokecc@hotmail.com
