Pre-season we sent an e-mail to a pair of our most supportive parents, Hayley Townsend and the director of Surrey County Cricket Club’s Academy, Gareth, asking if they felt their Ben would be fine to start playing longer-format adult cricket for us. Parental permission secured, Ben chipped in with 15 wickets in all formats, (and displayed some incredible fielding too), to finish with these impressive numbers:

11 is for “My Greatest XI”

Listening to an old audio-book of Richie Benaud’s, in it he devotes a couple of chapters to what he calls “My Greatest XI.” By his definition they had to:

* Be brilliant cricketers, characters and good mixers on & off the pitch as they would be representing him.
* Have a beneficial effect on the game, be champions and have left an influence on cricket.
* Play on good pitches with pace, good for shots and fast bowlers, with spin to come into the game later on. Read more

Who would be a keeper? In the 2nd XI League campaign this year, EIGHT different people took the gloves at various stages:

Between them they took a total of 17 catches, (Carel led the way with 6), 1 stumping, (Tom Frost), and 62 byes. Read more
