Stoke’s 1st XI were back to winning ways against a Cheam side who still need of a result to retain their place in the division.

Hampton Hill 2nd XI 237 for 7 (50 overs)
Stoke D’Abernon 2nd XI 186 all out (43.2 overs)
Hampton Hill 2nd XI won by 51 runs
The simple maths of this one was that one of the opposition scored 111 and one partner, with whom he shared a stand of 107 for the 4th wicket, also bettered Stoke’s highest scorer, (45), and no others made it past 35.

A glorious day where Stoke came back from the concession of an opening stand of 171 to win with an over or so to spare; every single member of the team leaving a positive entry on the scorecard.

After a close game a few weeks ago the clubs set up a return fixture, and this time a Stoke side stronger than last time out beat a Chobham side who were missing a couple.

A day that started with cautious optimism where winning the remaining games could result in one or more promotions ended up being a bit of a damp squib as all three league sides fell to defeat, and whilst mathematically things are still on for all prospects now look unlikely on all three fronts.

A tremendous advert for Sunday cricket saw Stoke secure a narrow win with all four results possible going into the final over.
Triple frustration as all three Saturday sides were rained off in arguably must-win matches; the only consolation being no-one else in their division managed a result either.

With availability coming in later than hoped we sailed close to the wind on the fixture stakes, only getting something appropriate on the Friday evening. A message from that opposition to say they couldn’t raise a side was then received whilst the 3rd XI match was nearing its conclusion; another opposition was cajoled into conceding home advantage at 8pm only for them to call at 9.20pm to say not enough players were prepared to switch to an away; so the mood at the dinner table was glum until a message came through at 10.14pm to ask if we were still looking for an opposition. Minutes later the fixture was inked in and the WhatsApp group received a message to say that we were back on…again!
